Thanks.

Check out photos 8,9 & 14/74 of http://www.styleforum.net/g/i/116289/8-and-alpine-saddles-jpg/sort/display_order/, those helped convinced me.  There was also a pair with some wear on ebay late last month.

Have you brushed it at all yet?

This post might be more appropriate for the ALLEN EDMONDS thread!

D'oh! I'm on my phone, sorry about that

Does the style no. with FD-XXXXX on theshoemart mean factory seconds?

and the XXXXX means the standard Alden style no. I presume.

Should I be concerned with the creasing so close to the base of the lasing?  I feel like they fit well, but I've never seen any of my shells crease in this spot.

Killin' it Repp, these are fantastic!  Would you ever consider bar lacing?

But remember, shoes fit each of us differently. A large gap at the back, often, speaks to poor fit. Uncle Mac's advice on wearing on carpet, and really sessing fit, is way smart. Personally, I learned the hard way.

I'm definitely determining the correct fit, a la Mac break in method.  I tried them on again, and the fit is good.  That pic has an apparent gap because I was leaning and stretching pretty far forward to take that pic with my i-phone; at least that's my guess. I don't think I could go any smaller.  Thanks again for the observation!

I've found those whiskey wt bals to be a very odd fitting pair of shoes. I've owned two pairs over the years and got rid of both due to the facings touching (almost overlapping) when laced and the collars riding WAY too far up to where they dug into my ankle bones. I own other pairs on the Tremont, and they're actually some of my favorite and best fitting shoes. I've thought of going down an additional 1/2 size from my Barrie size in these, but I just don't think I'd have the toe room. No whiskey wings for me.

Could be but I have not experienced this. My FD's only have R for rejects stamped in the lining across from the style numbers.

Great whiskey wingtip Repp ! looks like a night for whiskey.

I'm beginning to become addicted. I started off with just the Cigar Indy boot last month, and now have the Whiskey LWB (they came in today from Alden SF)

Also just bought two black shells seconds from shoemart tonight (praying they turn out ok).

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for all the great posts, and all the great info. I've been chasing the Daytrippers, or any Ravello Captoe Boot. So any leads would be huge.

Does anyone know if Alden does the Wingtip Bal in Natural CXL or has a plain toe loafer in Natural CXL? I'm really digging the Natural CXL that has been posted. Anyways, its almost 3 am and I'm looking at Aldens online........ facepalm.gif

Do the oils in deer bones taper off over time? I've had one for almost a year now and it doesn't seem to be as oily as when I bought it. I store it in the same tissue paper in which it was sent by the Hanger Project. Could the tissue paper be the problem? The paper has become very oily over time. Can someone who owns a deer bone post how they store theirs? Thanks.

I store mine unwrapped in my shine box.  I would think that the paper would draw any oil out of the bone so I would suggest not wrapping it.

No idea how long they last

Makes sense to wear your #8 PTBs with your 990th post. Assuming these are Aldens and not Alden x Brooks Brothers, your nailed the model number with your post count.
