Just so gorgeous a color!  I am one of the very unfortunate and probably few on this thread that doesn't own any Ravello. I think I'm being picky in getting as close to my dream boot as I can and I may have to go to Anatomica to realize that dream but your awesome pics are just driving me forward that much more.  Thanks for sharing, and congrats on your wonderful Ravellos!

Have never really been a loafer-guy, but I always feel inspired when I see your LHS.  I thought the cigar was the best LHS shell option; not so sure anymore.  The ravello looks wonderful (great shine)!

Just to clarify, Chromexcel is only tanned with large cow hides, otherwise the article would vary far too much. Shell is never tanned as a chrome excel, shell requires completely different tannage.

When I say horsehide CXL I don't mean shell, I mean horse front. I think they use that for CXL.

Also, on a side note, although the Tobacco Chamois edition is not an excat replica of the Indy films boots, like those being made by Alden for Adventurebilt shoe store in Germany, the Tobacco Chamois comes very close to the boots in the Indy films. I own three pairs of the Tobacco Chamois and they are perhaps the most comfortable, reliable, and sturdy Indy boots. I use one pair for my field work in Africa and the other two for daily non-work use.

awesome! do you have any photos of well-loved tobacco chamois?

Nevertheless, I had a nice package from LS waiting for me at customs here in Germany (excellent costumer service btw - especially considering the oversea-shipping to Europe). Day one of breaking them in using the Mac Method. Enjoy!

does German customs make you pick up the package from them directly?

Yes, they do - at least in this case. LS just put the value of the package on the outside, but no invoice. Unfortunately this does not suffice for customs over here, so they make you pick up the pair personally with a copy of the invoice.

After the package has 'cleared' customs at the airport, it will be delivered to a customs office close to where you live. They will then send you a notification that the package is waiting for you, and that you have to present an invoice for it. It's a bit inconvenient, since it takes another week until you finally get your shoes confused.gif.

The pics without creases are from when they were brand new & unworn. Threw them in to show ravello under various lighting conditions.

The Marlows are full strap and closed heed/270 degree welt, whereas the LHS is non-full strap and 360 degree welt, but ultimately they are both pennies.

Both are different enough, and the whiskeys are more different even still.

Misterjuiceman is correct.  I don't think there was any misunderstanding there.  The shell only comes from a small area on the hind quarters of the horse.  There is still a whole lot of horse leather that can be used for other purposes after the shells have been harvested.

If one remembers little else, one should remember that: shell = horse's ass. nod[1].gif
