You sure it wasn't 14 days?  I just ordered some Wednesday and was told two weeks.

This is awesome.  When I was at Alden DC with my gf a couple weeks ago she mentioned she'd love to work there.

I wonder which retailer it was?

Yea, it definitely looks like someone packed them improperly.  I bought these semi-locally (I had to drive about 2 hours to get to the store).  They fitted me with a couple pairs of beater shoes they had in stock and then ordered these "custom" ones for me from Alden.

I guess I'm curious about how often things like this appear.  Would Alden normally replace something like this or would they say that this is normal.  I doubt that I would be able to get a replacement for this shoe, but I'm having a hard time accepting this and wearing them around.

I think you're getting pent up over nothing - there's no structural damage to the shoe, it's not a deep scratch that needs to be boned out, etc. As you wear it, that will go away - ie adjusting to your foot rather than the box it's been in. Throw some large trees in there, brush vigorously, and there's no problem.

If you do end up going the replacement route, you could just return those where ever you got them, now that you know your size order a different pair from Alden SF or other retailer.  It is a stock model, isn't it?  #8PTB?

Is it me or do you gents have some differently fitting Aldens in the same last as well? Some of my Aldens in the same last (Barrie in this case) fit more tighter than others. Nothing too alarming, but noticeable nonetheless. The NXL Indy Oxfords I wore today is the most noticeably loose fitting, even though they're all in the same size and width.

I have a pair of NCXL PTBs in 11.5D that fit almost like an E because the leather stretched out so much. Have to wear thick socks with that pair.

Also, on a side note, although the Tobacco Chamois edition is not an excat replica of the Indy films boots, like those being made by Alden for Adventurebilt shoe store in Germany, the Tobacco Chamois comes very close to the boots in the Indy films. I own three pairs of the Tobacco Chamois and they are perhaps the most comfortable, reliable, and sturdy Indy boots. I use one pair for my field work in Africa and the other two for daily non-work use.

Could not agree more. While I own only one pair, and do nothing that could even be exaggerated enough to be considered field work, these are the best boots I've ever owned for getting around in in climate weather. They take a beating and come right back to life with a damp rag and brushing.

I'd never been one for the Chamois boots - but these reviews above are sounding really appealing^^^

Gents,

been to Anatomica Tokyo last week and they had a beautiful pair of shell boots - unfortunately not in my size. Will travel to Anatomica Paris next week and see if they have some nice makeups in my size (the website is kind of a nightmare regarding their stockwink.gif).

Nevertheless, I had a nice package from LS waiting for me at customs here in Germany (excellent costumer service btw - especially considering the oversea-shipping to Europe). Day one of breaking them in using the Mac Method. Enjoy!

CXL is Chromexcel, but as far as I know they only use it for cowhide and horsehide, not calf.

I always thought that the old Indys were kind of like a brown patent leather. Anyway, here's some pics of the replicas: http://www.adventurebiltdeluxe.com/accessoires.php
