I wear the same size (10D) with Marlow and the Barrie last, however the Marlow's are definitely more narrow.  I have read on several SF threads that some prefer to go up a half size, but for me the Marlow in 10.5D was enormous and entirely too long.  I think the comparison is similar to the sizing between BB PTB (m58 last) and Alden's 990(1).  Some size up for the BB version but I couldn't do it.  Hope this helps...

I forgot to mention/ask...  How do you feel about buying used shoes, especially ones this nice?  If the shoe has some mileage beneath them as these whiskey PTBs appear to have, doesn't the cork base mold to the previous owner's foot and interfere with proper fit and comfort, or is that a minor concern?  I'm also a bit of an OCD-germ-a-phobe.  I suppose some disinfectant would kill anything inside.  I think I would rather pay full price and know exactly what I'm getting.  Am I paranoid and just need to get over it???

FWIW, I wouldn't have much of an Alden "collection" but for buying used. As someone who doesn't have a wadload of cash to spend, buying used can be a great deal. All depends on personal preference though. I've never had comfort or real fit issues w/ the footbed b/c of a previous wearer, but that's just me.

Really though, be smart in your buys - if it looks beat to trash, it probably is. If it's still got life, that life is just as good on your feet.

I'm not a big fan of buying used shoes. It's one thing if they have been worn a few times but beyond that I'm not interested. It just kind of creeps me out.

There's also a 9D barrie last ravello PTB on ebay, not as cheap as the whiskey PTB above but still better than retail. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alden-Ravello-Shell-Cordovan-Plain-Toe-Blucher-Barrie-last-9D-/300848202274?pt=US_Men_s_Shoes&hash=item460bf34222

Certainly nothing wrong with that, when it comes to shoes or many other things.

I have the same issue and actually just bought my first pair but they had just come back fresh from Alden Factory Refurb so felt better about it and it worked out fine.  #8 monks for $300.

Certainly understand the creepy aspect. However, the shoes appear to be in very good condition. At that price, you could send them to Alden or B. Nelson for restoration and the cork base would be replaced and the sole, etc. would be new. Financially, you would still be way ahead vs. retail on whiskey PTB's. My two cents.

AE has a navy suede belt

Repp - these look fantastic. Hook 'em!!!
