The best bet for a shell (non-Alden) belt right now is Epaulet. I bought a saddle shell belt from them last month and love it. Not cheap though. If enough of us got together and asked Adele and Mike to have Carmina make a bunch of belts for SF members maybe they'll be interested?

My 10 y.o #8 Alden belt is well loved and still looking great.

What about the Carminas make them worth 33% ($100) more than the Rancourts?

One (1) inch belt would be pretty narrow. Normal dress belts are around 30mm, approx. 1-1/5 in (one and one fifth inch). From what I know, the BB ones are 30mm with gold tone buckles, unless they changed recently. Alden offers 30mm and 35mm, with either gold tone or nickel plated buckles.

Carmina possibly dressier. Never seen one in person. And the Horween shell has had a vacation on Mallorca ha ha

I can't answer that without having a Rancourt in hand.

From the picture I don't like the belt for two reasons: 1. Rancourt is a tad bit wide for my taste in shell belts. 2. I don't like the look of the edging.

How is the quality?
Do they make anything besides color 8?

I passed (after much anguish ) on a pair of these that had been returned to the san francisco store last week.I had a pair of cigar indys in the mail and I also have a pair of like new hanover one color (ravello) saddle shoes. When I discussed the choice with my wife she she seemed to not understand one cannot posess too much ravello shell.Love my indy boots but I wish I hadnt seen that pic .
