The Meermin thread that may be of interest.

Hypothetical question of the day: In your Alden collection, between the shell colors whiskey and ravello, you are allowed 1 chukka and 1 LHS, and they cannot be the same color. That is, you are allowed either (1) a ravello chukka and a whiskey LHS OR (2) a whiskey chukka and a ravello LHS. You are allowed chukkas and LHS's in other shell colors, and you allowed other styles in ravello and whiskey. Would you choose 1 or 2?

I know there's no single answer, just looking for opinions.

In the market for a pair and not sure what to get...

Thanks!

Personally, I'm a huge fan of how Natural CXL develops with wear. The Indy or Plaintoe Boot in natxcl will develop beautiful color variation if well cared for. They're also generally easy to care for (bigger sections of leather w/ less broguing) than a longwing.

Haven't seen a natural cxl chukka - that could be great too.

If you can only choose one, the PTB might be a better year round selection, but I like the chukka better for a 3 season shoe.

If you can get 2 pairs, consider the unlined chukka from TSM and maybe an Indy, perhaps the Kudu that Phi Psi has mentioned.  (though it might not get produced right away, if at all.)

Good luck.

I'll be curious to see what advice others will offer.

Thanks for your reply!  I'm just concerned about wearing unlined shoes in the winter.  Do people wear these boots in the cold climate?  I also think the Goodyear soles might be a better option than the leather.

What are people's thoughts on the unlined versus lined suede chukka or the tobacco PTB?  I'm so indecisive and need people's thoughts!  Thanks!

The fit and look of the Indy boots is definitely not for everyone though the look has become a bit fashionable nowadays. Keep in mind, they were originally orthopedic boots.

Thanks for the info, but I am pretty much aware of that, about Mr. Ford and his preferences. However, since the origins of that shoe were that of the orthopedic sort, that also confirms my Fred G Sanford comment as well.

So far it is 1 vote (Uncle, notably) for ravello chukka/whiskey LHS and 3 votes for whiskey chukka/ravello LHS.

I always thought this was a Hawaiian custom -- a sign of respect reserved for members of the extended "family". Not remotely creepy to me -- friendly and respectful, like Mac.
