this might b stupid question. i m very new to Alden boots, actually hvn't own any pair yet.

i m thinking to get a pair of Indy Boots but confusing between 403 and 405.

can i know any differences between 403 and 405?
Is there any different version of Indy boot 403 and 405? ( i mean Unionmade & J.Crew)

Thanks for the helps.

This has probably been answered 10 times in this thread but i'll pipe up anyway.

In a nut shell the 403 is made of brown Horween Chromexcel leather and the 405 is the standard Tan leather "Indy Boot".

also, the J.crew 403 has heel counter stitching added, whereas the stock 403 (sold at unionmade and most alden retailers) does not.

Is the general consensus that Tru-Balance and Barrie are the same size last with respect to length?

I've found that the heel cup is about the same on both lasts but the forefoot/toebox on the trubalance has more room widthwise.

I wear the same size in both (1/2 down from normal) but the tru-balance quite a bit wider in the toe area

The Unionmade 403 and J.Crew 405 are the same except for some differences in stitching, and I believe the J.Crew 405 is fully-lined. Now the standard non-J.Crew 405 has a totally different leather from the 403 (plain cow-hide, not chromexcel), but it's the same in every other regard as the 403.

Does anyone find that their little toes push into the side of their trubalance boots? This phenomenon only occurs on my Indys and I'm contemplating stretching them.

Long time lurker, first time poster; to this particular thread. I received a good chunk of cash from my parents for Christmas and its time to make another Alden purchase. I have a very small collection and I am looking for my next purchase to be able to cover the widest spectrum in regards to versatility. I'm looking for something sleek enough to wear with a suit yet casual enough to wear with jeans. Also, this will be my first shell purchase.

Current collection:
Dark brown 913
Burgundy calf 683
Black pebble Longwing on Truflare(Grandfathers from the 80's)
J. Crew Indy

I view this thread daily and really am having a tough time deciding what my next best option may be. I know the decision is ultimately up to me and my tastes but I was hoping to get some feedback from the community.

Considering:
#8 longwing(actually would consider any color other than black)
#8 J. Crew cap
#8 Shoemart cap
#8 Sherman brothers cap

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciate!! Replies with pictures never hurt anyone either!

Plus, I had just administered the method on them.

nephew,
you have done well, consider the black in either tassel of strap tip

Are they CXL? Should stretch on it's own

And Al go with a #8 boot or lwb. I prefer boots but both would be good
