I thought an LWS was a totally sweet Alden shoe I had never even heard of before - thanks for clarifying :slayer:

Alright... so i just received my alden #8 lwb from leffot... and im loving it :D though the top part of the width is kinda tight but still bearable ...
Anyway here are some pictures of it

Those look beautiful. I may have to rethink not getting a pair of Aldens in shell. I may just have to add a #8 to my collection in the future.

so what are the Jcrew boots? Are they Chromexcel?

The J. Crew Indy boots are chromexcel. They are the same leather as the stock Indy 403 based on people's (including mine's) observations. The stitching pattern on those boot are unique to J Crew, however.

J Crew also claims its longwings (dark brown and tan "tobacco") are also chromexcel. I'm less sure of this, as I haven't seen any other Alden retailers use those chromexcel colors. However, having inspected those shoes they do feel a bit thicker than normal calf and could very well be chromexcel.

The #8 longwing is a critical part of any Alden collection

I am going to have to keep my eye out for a pre-order now, since no one stocks my size in the Barrie it is usually on.

try calling one of the Alden stores (DC, NY, SF) - they should have plenty of sizes. Also most Alden retailers can probably order you a #8 longwing in your size given it's one of their base shoes

What size are you? www.aldenshop.com seems to have just about every size in C, D, and E widths.

My experience has been that the inventory displayed on the Alden SF website bears little to no correlation with what they have in stock, e.g., C width shoes. That may have changed in recent months, however, with the slight re-do of the site.
