does Alden offer anything where style might play second fiddle to comfort? I have access to alden DC so will likely bring him in for a fitting/purchase, just trying to gather some notes..

thanks in advance!

In addition, I think it would be good for him to remember that Alden's shoes are timeless designs.  It just so happens that the current fashion trend is favoring timeless designs, so if he is wearing them, he will be "in style" by default.  He could always consider a shoe that has minimal or no broguing to avoid an eye catching shoe if he wants to.  However, most of the shoes he would consider have been around for a long time, far longer than any fashion cycle.  If a last is comfortable for him, he can rest assured that the shoes (if well cared for) will outlast the fashion trends, and he will just look like he is wearing high quality shoes.

These are bluchers that showed up on The ShoeMart seconds list over the summer. They definitely fit differently from other Alden lasts, but they work for me and I'm enjoying them.

These are great. I really like the closed heel on the Indy boot.

I agree. A very comfortable and much more true to size last.

just spoke to Brenda at Alden SF. the trim on their Ravello is indeed antique, and not dark, as someone else had suggested... thank god.

I just heard from Alden SF.

Alden SF's current batch of Ravello LWBs have antique edging.

Yeah, don't often see pricing like that. I got the light brown LWB and the Indy boots but the Indys are going back. Right side of right boot has a horrible piece of leather for the upper, just really bad. I know CXL is sometimes inconsistent and a little wrinkly looking or whatever...but this is as bad as I've ever seen it after just 1 wear. Longwings are great though, love the color and the leather and construction on this pair seems almost perfect (slightly askew stitch or two but that is all).

I was surprised to see the dark edge trim (brown, not black) when my Alden DC ravello LWB showed up at my home.  I felt the same way at first and quickly changed my mind.  Couldn't be happier with the darker edge.  It's dressier and much more versatile, imho.  I thanked God as well... nod[1].gif
