Nice.

I'd buy a pair of these (or ravello or whiskey) if I could find them in 11 C.

The price goes up again. #8 for $675??  Unbelievable!

I've been interested in this combination; however, I don't like how the welt's upper is dyed purple (I assume from the #8 coating) instead of having a similar natural color as the soles. Only reason why I chose the stock 975 with black soles over this make-up.

Yes, the Modified last is awesome (still looking for a few gents interested in doing a Modified Kudu Indy boot).  The more I wear my Modified shoes; the more I like them.  The narrow waist and taller heel cup do a better job conforming to the shape of your foot.  And the shoe moves well with your foot.

It definitely sucks that the shell Modified is almost exclusively sold overseas, but you just have to factor that into the price comparison vis-a-vis a shell makeup on a different last.  For my money I haven't worn another shoe that fits as well as the Modified.

The reason apparently is that Alden sells their shoes for way more to international stores (like you pay 1k+ for Alden shell abroad) and the way they don't make them totally screwed is by making modified international-only. Moulded shoe has been around for so long that they always have sold modified and it didn't seem fair to their customer base to take it away.
Note also that their website doesn't really reflect their stock selection and they're out stock in a lot of styles (like the color 8 captoe).

Fresh from Connecticut, a pair of ptb next to a pair of lwb that I wore to work today. The lwbs arrived a little less than a year ago.

Color on mine is pretty close to this photo: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

You don't like? It's more of a "british tan" than a tobacco, IMHO. I like my pair, although I probably only wear them once a month or so.

That was a factory mistake on some of the smaller sizes they got. I have these and the welt is natural, to match the edge trim.

ShaunW: those cigar PTBs from Frans are so gorgeous. Congrats.

With the help of Reddit, I finally identified this pair of shoes I got at a thrift store for $4 in poor condition years ago:

Alden for Brooks Brothers Plain Toe Cordovan Bluchers

I'm wondering if anyone here can help me figure out how old they might be?

I plan to get them fixed up, but I have some questions you guys might be able to help me with.  Alden is sending me a mailer to send to their factory to be restored, which costs $160.  They say they'll send them back if they're beyond repair.  What I really need is a new sole and heel, and hopefully the heel counters fixed.  I think they're beyond cosmetic repair with some deep scratches in the cordovan, and I really like the patina and worn away dye anyway.  My question is: would a local cobbler be able to handle the resole/heel without messing them up?  How about the heel counter?  Or would it be worth it to have Alden do the work.  I'm in Southern Michigan and I make it to Chicago frequently so if anyone knows of a cobbler that would be up to the task around here, I'd appreciate it.

Did you have to size down 1/2 a size compared to say the Barrie last?

Does anyone know of retailers other than CitiShoes that stock #8 NST shoes on the Barrie (model 2450)? I know TSM stocks them in cigar and whiskey.

i would send them to B Nelson in NYC, not Alden.

B Nelson does great work, and I have a feeling they would be less likely to label the shoes as "beyond repair" than Alden would be.

And the third - Joe - is also great to work with. Speaking of Joe, I ordered via phone the ravello LWB (antique edging; double waterloc sole) before they were even in their system. And they arrived at my door yesterday. biggrin.gif
