Anyone have any suggestions for non-Alden replacement laces? My blank Indy's keep breaking the standard Alden laces, so I'd like to find something a little stronger.
I do not know what kind they are...but I went into the Alden SF store with the same complaint/request and they gave me some round nylon ( i think) laces that are awesome on in my Indys- super tough...perhaps call them and see what they are using...
easy...they are not CXL...they are #8 and not that shiny considering
I did give them a dash of polish and significant elbow grease (Mac method) prior to departure...but after several days of travel and traipsing they were not that shiny if you saw them up close..
Wearing out for the first time today a "new" pair. J.Gilbert Cap-toe #8 boots w/ commando sole (recently aquired from Namor). This is my grail boot. Could not be happier.

I'm so happy for you!
I wear a lot of denim being a college student and I was weary of #8s.
You may have sold me on them. Damn you! (says my wallet)

Thanks for a great picture
I have these same boots and they're absolutely fantastic. I wear 3-4 diff colour 8 boots and I usually wear jeans with all of them. Get nothing but compliments on them!
On J gilbert's site they have the indy boots in #8 with what looks like the old MACHINE stitching. Is this correct or is it the angle? Can anyone confirm. I've been looking for the old machine stitching on either #8 or Cigar FOREVER. I thought all cordo indy boots were hand stitched now. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

I got my #8 Indys from J. Gilbert and they were hand stitched (see pic above)

Id honestly give up on your search unless someone has a old pair they are wiling to part with. Sadly Alden doesnt do machine stitching on cordovan indys anymore.

that's my impression too, though the j gilbert photo def has machine stitching...

looks great. the pink thread of the momotaro denim reads nicely with the #8.
There's a grant last make up of this at alden nyc that looks pretty great as well.
While I'm here I might as well share some pics of my now correct sized Leffot day trippers that I took a couple weeks back.
Thanks again wigglr for buying my 10.5Ds to help me get these!
First pair Ive gotten that has the lucky stamp inside!
