It seems to me that Alden's "brown" cxl -- like on the 403s -- has a lot more red in it than the "brown" cxl from other makers, no?

Nope. My brown Wolverine 1000 mile boots is also very reddish under strong sunlight. They are all CXL from Horween.

looking for pair of black plain toe boots in cordovan still... anyone knows where i can get?

Alternatively I'm looking at the http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-mens_cap_toe_boot_shell_cordovan_black_shell/pvc-ald-mxs-4065_ald_m_cap_toe_boot_shell_cordovan.html
since its the closest to a PTB that i can find.

But a quick question, with no speedhooks, and just all eyelets, can i use the "tie around the ankle" method for the shoe laces ?

Yeah. You're right. I thought the brown cxl Steinbeck boots at Epaulet were straight brown, but on second thought, you can see the burgundy undertones.

No angry natives with poison darts or crazed nazis to deal with, just an easy Saturday morning doughnut run with my Cigar Indy's....

i'm also in the market for a black boot - why do you not like the trubalance, is is more bulbous than the barrie?

nonwithstanding availability, what are your favorite Alden black boots?  i might just hold out of try to do an MTO.  the blackbird milkman boot was a pretty sweet offering, and i also like the AF60.

For those that use Saphir cordovan cream - do you use Saphir Reno on the shoes before applying Sahpir Cordovan cream, or do you use seperately. My cigar longwings and RL marlows need work, I am going to go at them tomorrow

^ Saphir cordovan cream replaces Reno on cordovan leather.

I told alden of DC a couple weeks ago that they need to reissue the blackbird milkman's, and they said they would look into/consider it. Email them and tell them you are interested too.
