Chukkas don't a lot of love on this thread, but these and my whiskey chukkas are my most complimented Alden shoes. Chukkas really highlight the appeal of cordovan

Disagree on this. I can only comment on the Darlton/Marlow wintip and the Lindrick boot, as I don't own any other C&J shoes, but both pairs have their minor "issues". If the finish is better, it's certainly not "a lot" better. Maybe "a little" better. Maybe.

But either way the Darlton/Marlow is a great shoe. I wear mine probably more than any other individual pair I own. Can't recommend it enough (on sale, not at full price).

I know that has been mentioned about the lindricks as well and people not realized the tongue is stitched in place. Either way with Ralph Lauren or BB, you can easily return, something that isn't as easy with some Alden retailers

The finish rubbing off is what ultimately did me in - and by all accounts had nothing to do with BB. Certainly the handling of the boots by certain persons in the BB chain of possession may have contributed to the nicks and scratches - but the boots had never been tried on .....

Yep - I had no problem with the return.

For those on here that want the elusive ravello SWB, but can't seem to get lucky enough to track them down, I would highly recommend giving the Marlow a shot (if, in fact, you are willing to go to a darker brown).
I went TTS. The fit is somewhat similar to the Tremont.
A good weekend to one and all.

The dark brown shell on the Darlton/Marlow is a fantastic shade. On some days I like it better than cigar shell.

Maiden voyage of 403s today. My toes <3 trubalance.

Those chukkas are both looking good... must resist.

Excellent. I'm considering those for my second Aldens.

Thanks Papa Doble! These were my second Aldens. They're probably the most versatile shoes I own and they're super-comfy … like wearing slippers smile.gif

I'm considering them for about my 22nd pair... as soon as I clean out some more closet space. The wife recommended I stop buying shoes since I seem to have run out of floor space under my side of the bed, in the closet, on the garage boot rack... So somebody buy the shoes in my signature so I can get some color #8 chukkas! icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

The post right below yours is the best representation of Color 8 in person.

Gentlemen,

I have read online that getting an Alden shoe resoled by anyone other than Alden will result in a "less tight" feeling in the shoe, due to differing resoling methods.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

C&J quality is better and much more consistent than Alden

Stitching on welt
Stitching of uppers
Thickness of leather (C&J shaves theirs for a closer finish)
Alden misses punches on their brogues
Alden ships shoes with obvious imperfections

What I like about Alden is their treatment of shell. The #8 is painted as is the cigar which prevents it from drying out. C&J is notorious for this
