I don't think I've ever had an import tax charge from the usps on anything under $1000. Might just be my luck though

The last time I got charged from UPS, total was $58 for a pair of Tricker's.
That includes the customs and the UPS fees. I'm not sure of the breakdown of fees for UPS, but fedex charges $25 for clearance + $5 advancement fee.

WOW,

I got a door tag from UPS indicating that I owe $112.23. They must be tripping! I already paid 35 euro to have the aldens shipped to me from frans boone in the netherlands. No way I ever order aldens international again

We should try to get the international shipping / custom / duty fees information into a single post. I've ordered from Tassels Hong Kong with no fee besides the standard shipping fee (I believe the shipping was handled by USPS on the US end).

Hello fellow Aldenians! This is my first post on SF so I figure I'll share some camera phone pics of my first pair of Alden's #8 LWB 8D with the antique edging.  Sorry the picture quality is not great, and they are do for a good shine as I have only wore them a couple of times (still breaking them in). I picked them up online from The Bureau at Belfast - Merchants & Missionaries. http://www.thebureaubelfast.com/shop/brand/58/alden/  for approximately $850 after shipping and currency conversion ( I know it's a little pricey but I really wanted the antique edge trim from Alden. There are still a couple of sizes left too! I'm already shopping for my 2nd pair of Aldens, I'm hooked!! Looking at #8 or cigar cap toe boots, jumpers, or tankers (if I'm lucky enough!).

I was charged about $50 shipping for these from Northern Ireland to US. I ordered them on a Wednesday and they arrived on Friday!!

I suspect UPS f'd up.
Try and get an invoice from UPS detailing how much of that are their fees versus the customs/duty. You should be able to somehow get that customs/duty back.

Took my cigar LWBs on a maiden journey for a date (sorry guys, didn't have time to snap pics, will do later). My better half said something along the lines of "..nice shoes..". I thought, "for the buck, they better goddamn be nice!"

Well, at least that was the first time she commented on my shoes nod[1].gif

About to pull the trigger on some NSTs when I find a deal of any sort. Should I do #8 or Ravello? And boot or something else?

Finding a pair in ravello is unlikely. Finding a deal on them is basically impossible right now.

You can try TSM for some Ravello NST boots, I think they still have some sizes in stock. But like others have said, you'll have to pay full price if you are lucky enough to find your size.
