Nice boots! What last is that and where'd you get 'em, if you don't mind me asking?

I'd recommend Venetian Creme and lots of brushing, but Saphir Renovateur works well too.

Update on the import duty assessed on my Frans Boone order. UPS's position is that it's my problem. So I'm filling out a CBP form and mailing it to the port of entry with supporting documentation, in triplicate. mad.gif

CBP was actually pretty helpful on the phone in explaining what I needed to do, and its website has a lot of useful information. This in contrast to our friends in big corporate private enterprise at UPS. The lady there didn't care about my problem. Her main goal seemed to be to get me off the phone. Also my other requests for information from UPS Supply Chain Solutions were more often than not met with puzzled silence.

As a result, I've cancelled my UPS account and will use FedEx for the foreseeable future. UPS won't notice. It only ship occasionally for personal stuff. But I'm not going to do business with them by preference for a while, at least until my fit of pique wears off and I get tired of driving further to drop packages off.

Lesson: Make sure that a foreign seller marks the invoice for Aldens very, very clearly as representing sale of goods made in the USA. Heck you might even get them to cite that section of the tariff code about return of USA made goods.

Probably too much effort for $61, but I'm annoyed.

Here's a photo of my Alden's worn with my Civilianaire jeans.

Thinking of getting black shell longwings and would appreciate some help from those who own them. My only other shells are color 8 longwings and I just sent a pair of cigar longwings back to Alden in hopes they can repair a defect, which I'm guessing is unlikely. I know many think it's best to buy black after they own 4 or 5 other pairs of shell so I'm curious as to how much use they get from those who own them. I'd be wearing these almost exclusively with jeans and would be buying them full price unless anyone has leads on a sale (checked Amore but they don't carry them and I refuse to give Adam of AoC my business, even on seconds). Thanks for the help guys.

What a pain Frank, so I emailed Frans about this info and he has no control over this BS by UPS I guess some folks here got lucky for not being hit with this fees. Anyway Frans change all his labeling to reflect this from happening again.

"Update 07-09-2012 These goods are from US origin, so will be shipped to US, clearly mentioned as "goods from US origin" to avoid import taxes. However we are not responsible for the handling fee's etc. Feel free to contact us for more info. serivce@fransboonestore.com"

Why? What's wrong with AoC? That's where I just ordered, and Adam's been very helpful so far.

Had a bad experience with him. I explained it earlier in this thread so I won't again. Glad to hear your experience was different.

Some peopel dont like his 'return policy'. The fact that if you are not happy with the fit or shell quality you can return them only for exchange or store credit.

We're men. Sometimes we put entirely too much effort into things to prove a point.

When I was very young, my dad and I went to Target to buy supplies for...a birthday party, maybe? I can't remember exactly what for. But he bought a bunch of 2L bottles of soda. They were marked on sale in a number ending in a 4, but rang up ending in a 9. So they overcharged us by maybe 50 cents total. My dad went on a Costanza-esque crusade to get this money back because the corporate fat cats were screwing the little guy. They brought out a manager because the check-out girl just stared blankly, and the manager gave my dad his 50 cents and asked him to leave. I was so embarrassed. Now it's just funny.

Anyway, I'd be annoyed over $61, too.

This may help with the UPS "surcharge"

I also had a UPS problem when I purchased a pair of shoes from Frans.

That silly ass surcharge was going to cost me about $80.

I was able to get in touch with a "tariff classifications specialist" at UPS who was able to process my shipment without duty or other fees by using (she told me this for future reference) classification number 9801100095.

Maybe this will work for you guys?

p.s. I recently bought the most beautiful pair of cigar shell LWB's from Frans...and I mean virtually flawless. shipping was also extremely rapid. It's the second time I've purchased from him and I'm very impressed with his operation. Highly recommended.
