Good point. Thanks. I do fill a trubalance pretty fully I think. I'll check again tonight.

Or maybe I should get to a store to try on some Barrie last. I just really want a pair of LWBs!

Boots were assessed at a value of $722. My experience with these things is limited to this one instance, but my guess is that the variation in totals will depend on how much of a brokerage fee a carrier charges and what the duty rate is for a given item. The duty rate is most likely different for different goods.

Still waiting for Linda from UPS to call me back... must have one person dealing with this. cloud.gif

What did you get? Frans Boone has sick make ups. The Ravello Indy on plaza last is great

Mine are the Grant last captoe parajumpers in #8. Really like the shape and the bright brass eyelets/speed hooks.

Sorry for bad photos but trying to show the cracking between the welt and sole. Seems to happen on each pair of my Aldens. Anyone else experience this? Is this a defect and can it be fixed? (I know . . . . shoes need the method).

does anybody know how to figure out what last BB shoes are on? specifically, straight captoe blucher, model 2161. the pair in question is marked 9.5D. i'm a 9.5D in alden barrie, but i don't know what that translates to in that particular BB model.

the toe looks a bit pointed, does that suggest Hampton/Aberdeen more than Barrie?

Try them on later in the day after walking. My Barrie shoes fit well at 7am...poorly at 3pm.

The 2161 is on the Aberdeen:

I wonder if this is a factory version or a BB version.

Typically, Alden for BB models do not have the same model numbers as factory models (I have many BB models). Furthermore, BB models typically don't have the two-part designation of B/D; rather, they would only list D. Interesting .....

There has been discussion on here before that some of the BB shoes made by Alden are on non-standard lasts.

Yes, but these appear to be completely standard 2161's, not a special BB-only model.

What's unfortunate is that I have now had to call and leave a message to discuss this with someone at UPS, which is a waste of my time.
It looks as if Frans Boone did not mark USA made goods on the invoice and actually has language saying that the items are of EU origin unless otherwise noted. So that is likely the problem. I suppose anyone ordering Aldens from them should emphasize that the invoice needs to be clearly marked: USA made goods.
Addendum: It looks as if there's also a form that's supposed to be filled out by the importer: http://forms.cbp.gov/pdf/CBP_Form_3311.pdf. Not sure if that means me, or if UPS might have filled this out (and I'm sure charged me $6.50 to do it, which may well be fair enough).

Did you order from Frans Boone?

I just ordered from Frans Boone and don't want to get hit with this fee. I already paid a conversion fee for foreign transaction a total of over a $100 premium..angry.gif Whatshould we suggest to Frans? Frank I just copied your post and email him.

out of curiosity, what do the soles look like? is the stitching worn through-and-through on the sole side of things?

Keep us posted. How did you get hit with a $100 foreign transaction fee? That's rediculous
