How much longer is a 9D shoe on the Grant last than a 8.5D shoe on the Barrie last? Does anyone own two pairs in these different sizes and would be up to post pictures of them side-by-side?

Just grabbed my first pair of Aldens off of ebay, the Context Roy boot. They are essentially mint except for a few scuffs that I am going to spend some time this weekend brushing out. I can see why Alden has such a following. I have a pair of Allen Edmonds and the Wolverine 1000 Mile Addisons, and these are just head and shoulders above in terms of quality. I think this may be the start of an addiction that many of you seem to already share.

So I'm already thinking next pairs. I'd like a pair of chukkas, which I see are on the Barrie last. Would these be similar in sizing to the Trubalance? I sized down one to 12D from my normal 13D on the Trubalance.

I also love the tassel loafers, how does the Aberdeen last compare?

I'll post some pics once I get them brushed out.

I don't have a 9D Grant, but I do have both a Barrie wingtip boot and a Grant captoe boot, both size 8.5D ravello cordovan, pictured below. The sole of the Barrie measures 12 1/4 inches, a quarter-inch longer than the 12 inch Grant, and it's 4.5 inches at its widest (at the ball of the foot), a full 3/8 inch wider than the Grant, which measures 4 1/8. Note, however, that the Barrie lasted boot has a much more prominent welt which probably adds an apparent 1/4 inch in both length and width. They both work pretty well for my standard 9D feet, but I do notice the Grant's relative narrowness at the end of the day when my feet have swollen a bit. The Grant toe box narrows to a much smaller point than on the Barrie.

Morgan, you also take same size in grant and Barrie? Grant is as tight as the Barrie is loose

Do you think 13D in aberdeen/grant can translate to 12E in Truline last?

Great work..  Thanks

For those who have the J Crew color 8 cap toe boot (barrie), does it dress up pretty well, or is it strictly for casual attire.  Looking for my first shell boot and hoping to use casually (chinos, jeans, etc...) and occasionally dress it up some with jacket and tie, maybe a suit.  Thanks in advance...

NAMOR, I do take the same size in Grant and Barrie, and I don't think I'm the only one. Like I said, the 8.5 Grant is a tiny bit snug at the end of the day. It's also dressier, so I wear much thinner socks than I do with the Barrie.

I think the incremental changes between sizes increases with overall size. You're like a 12 or 13, right? I think the difference between 8.5 and 9 is probably way smaller than the difference between an 11.5 and 12 or between 12 and 12.5.

I would not hesitate to wear the JCrew cap toe with a heavy suit - flannel or tweed - but not with finer wool suits.

Grant last has me confused. I have a 10D in the grant last on my bbbf lwb and usually have 10.5 in barrie and trubalance. When trying on 10D grant boots, couldn't really get my foot in the boot and even 10.5D was a little tight...

if you're 10.5 with barrie/trubalance... shouldn't you be a 10.5 or 11 in grant?

The #8 with close welt and heel allow it to work with wool slacks just fine. It works great with chino and jeans too - I've found them to be very versatile. It was my first shell boot.

Alas, they don't seem to have my size.  Would like to see these IRL.

for all you punk rock Alden wearers...from Epaulet. Very cool boot that I wish I had a bit more $$ to buy.

Very tempting.  If only I hadn't just received the LS snuff PT boot.
