whiskey is too light to be a staple. if you have 10+ pairs go for it however most will find it hard to wear. unless of course you are located in a warmer climate and wear lighter colored clothes to match

I'm in the process of breaking in a new pair of shell longwings on carpet and noticed something on the upper, near the welt, where my foot flexes. It looks like part of the shell has come off. No idea if this is the shell itself or some kind of layer that was put over the shell but that area is now dull and no longer has the shell luster that the rest of the shoe has. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is it cause for concern? Did the problem area get larger as the shoe was worn? Like I said, this happened about an hour into breaking them in so I'm concerned it will spread given its location and the amount of brushing after each wear.

I concur but I'll be the first to admit its a little excessive. I considered the lw but thought the Indy was the more reasonable purchase. Those were simpler times..

One of the Alden Madison guys has suggested using mid-tan Kiwi paste wax on lighter pairs of whiskey. They normally use mid-tan on ravello. It can give it a darker, more burnished look over time. I haven't tried this myself.

It can be excessive. Thankfully the brand has good resale value.

Whiskey is perfect for the warmer climates like Scottsdale and Palm Springs, this color is basically year round:-)  People also dress a bit more casual in these climates.  Think lightweight fabrics, light colors... linen .. light cotton ... no hurry!

I call bullshit on the shoemart.

You are likely correct. In my experience, they are pretty good about accurately representing their inventory. What are the chances that all of the sizes ordered were actually not in stock? And, if you go to order them now, will they all of a sudden be available?

Anyone know if either of these Alden's are available for purchase anymore or were they just a special, one-time thing?

NAMOR, would you say the same of ravello? Put another way, how many pairs in black, burgundy/#8, or dark brown/cigar do you think one needs before they consider ravello (you suggested 10+ for whiskey)?

Yep, resale and also longevity of the shoes themselves.

The cigar LHS isn't available at all as of an hour ago.  I had placed my size in my cart on Friday (10D).  By Sunday it was no longer in stock.

As a rookie, it would be very interesting to see the progression from the first to most recent Alden acquisition of some Alden veteran collections here. I imagine uncle's would be formidable.

TSM might be waiting for the dust to settle before putting them back on the website.  Seems reasonable I guess.

Style and boot/shoe differences aside, the most practical shell colors (from my experiece and observations on this thread):

#8 tends to be first shell color
Cigar after 1+
Ravello after 3+
Black after 5-6+
Whiskey 8-10+
