If you have a high instep you may have to size up a width to get a comfortable fit. The vamp can be rather tight where the strap so I take an E instead of the my usual D width. Happy hunting.

What do you think of LWB with a suit? I know my socks could be straightened out.

New LWB

Some sticklers will say never wear a blucher with a suit, but most Alden aficionados here will say that a #8 LWB with a suit is a classic look. I think it looks fine and I don't think there's anything wrong at all with the look. I do know that the blurry shoes in the background need to be burned. devil.gif

This picture may have solidified my choice to get color 8 versus cigar when I get the LWB. Of course, cigar may no longer be an option soon.

As for your question, I think if you're going to wear bluchers with a dark suit, they should be black, burgundy, or dark brown with a black or dark brown welt/edge (such as your 975s).

+1, looks good to me. You are miles away from the grandpa rockport steez going on in the background.

It's not properly formal, but I could easily get away with it in my field. And I like the look with heavier wools and more Americana looks.

I love color 8 gunboats... it may break some antiquated rules, but they totally rock with suits.  I think cigar LWB can be worn with suits but require a little more thought; not nearly as versatile with dressier options.

You may get answers all over the map on this one. No right or wrong.

My personal thoughts on the matter, and my personal practice with shell LWBs:

yes - black
yes - color 8
yes - cigar*
no - ravello
never - whiskey

* Cigar can be tricky particularly if they have antique edging. Mine do, and I intentionally darkerned the edging with AE chili dressing and I had BNelson darken the top of the welt dark brown to match the cigar. IMO, this made them quite a bit dressier. The color scheme I was going for is represented nicely by the AE Jefferson balmoral WT in dark brown burnished calf (a shoe which I, incidentally, also have, and is, IMO, probably the finest calf shoe AE makes).
