I will check the NRO #8 Indy boot when I get home, but I will offer that the NRO picture shows all eyelets. The boot that I received was speed hooks similar to the NYC Alden offering referenced by zippyh style 40508. I didnt follow up with NRO regarding the difference, but my preference was eyelets.

Any thoughts about buying from Frans Boone?

I've been eyeing a few things on Frans Boone but that shipping charge and the possibility of some huge customs fees always detract me a little bit.

I have also been eyeing a shell Indy for a minute but I keep hearing these bulbous comments not to mention seeing my friends Cigar Indy's on a regular lately and it really is starting to settle in that the boot may just not be for me.

I think the first post left out Pelle Line, a store that sells a lot of Alden, including some special order styles http://www.pelleline.com/store/product-list.php?alden_shoes-pg1-cid47.html

I would pull the trigger on these, that is close enough.

Since they look like they are already worn, I would think the option is to have Alden re-dye the shoes. At first glance I really did not notice variations so for me, this is might not be an issue.

If you do contact the retailer, what are you expecting as reparation?

They look fine in the 1st and 3rd pics.  You can definitely see the variation in pic#2.  If in real life the variation is really as in #2, then for me personally, it would constantly be on my mind.  But that's very personal.  If it doesn't bother you, keep them.  Because they are an awesome pair of shoes!

I've worn some AEs for the first time without much carpet wear, and definitely noticed some wear at the toes. So, I had taps put on, but now that they're broken in, it doesn't seem like the taps are getting much wear. This suggests that if I had just broken them in on carpet (or at least with minimal pavement exposure initially), taps would not have been necessary.

Makes sense.  Thanks, guys.

I ordered the Ravello Indy's on the Plaza last that Frans Boone has and with the weak euro and vat deduction, they came out to be the same as buying the boots domestically (not that you could find them here).

Great service from Frans Boone and if you ask nicely, they will lower the value and you won't get hit with Customs fees.

Shouldn't be any customs on US made goods entering the US.

This one, for me, is quite easy, and it's not even close: cigar PTB. Cigar is easier to pair with clothes than is whiskey (I have various models in each color). The PTB style can be worn from dressy to casual, whereas the Indy, IMO, is strictly casual. Some may see it differently ....

As I type I am wearing my Ravello PTBs in a business casual environment.

I have no opinion on FB.

A significant premium over regular US retailers if you buy in Europe and that could be a deal breaker as well. But Frans Boone customer service is top notch.

I have a pair of the #8 parajumper boots inbound right now, due to arrive tomorrow by UPS. Ordered these on Tuesday of this week. So that part of the transaction looks to be very satisfactory. I'll try to post about the condition on arrival.

I hope I guessed right about Grant last sizing. Otherwise, I may be able to tell you about returns as well. smile.gif

Pricing in $ wasn't too far off what Leffot just asked for a #8 special makeup boot.

Also, and you may already know all this, but I thought about using PayPal for the transaction and maybe I misread something, but it seems as if it wanted to convert at $1.2785 to the EUR. That seemed off to me, so I was brave and used a credit card through Frans Boone's site and I think I came out about 3% to the better. Make sure you don't use a card that charges a currency conversion fee, of course.

IMO, this is totally personal and simply comes down to what you can tolerate (and if a replacement pair is available). In the last few years I have returned a whiskey model (no replacement available) and color 8 model (replacement available) because the difference was more than I could (or would) tolerate. FWIW, the pairs I returned were unworn.
