I was thinking the same when they wear out Alcibiades.

Look at Tom's for an example:

I like the crease forming on the 'cap' of your right foot. You don't often see that on cap toes. looks less stuffy that way. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Thanks BC I just wear them and Mac Method them.

I had the hooks removed in favor of eyelets and I think it makes the boot looks cleaner.

My order would be:

1. double leather JR
2. double leather flex
3. dainite (standard color)

Obviously if you are after something other than leather, the dainite is a great option.

Thing is I already have a cigar chukka on double leather sole. This PTB is sort of my "beater" / rainy weather cordovan shoe...

Thinking about adding a dainite sole in the standard color along with matched eyelets....

Alcibiades,

I realized I never replied to your "what to wear with whiskey monks" question.  I typically wear mine w/ jeans as well as lighter colored business casual fare (spring/summer tones).  I have also, on occasion, worn them with a light gray or medium blue suit, but never with dark tones.  I find that dark, formal wear with these makes the shoes "pop" too much, and I can rarely leave the house not thinking that my shoes are saying "hey, look at me!"

Any other type of sole would be an improvement over crepe, IMO. I would either go for double leather or dainite. Which seasons would you wear them most? If its in the wet, cold months I would go Dainite as I can't bear the sight of damp leather soles

Edit- just read your later posts. I would go with Dainite

When you say "double leather flex", does that mean the waterlock soles?

Question on Alden leather soles --- are the leather soles (single or double) that come from the Alden factory that are NOT the waterlock type, from JR? They obviously don't have the "JR" logo on them.

A Good Day for Indy #8s....on the steps in SF:

photodmj.jpg

Fresh off of a much needed polishing and Mac method treatment but if you look closely you can still see the discoloration caused by inadvertently leaving them outside over night when a drenching fog rolled in...thought it might fade over time and despite a vigorous brushing and polishing that ameliorated but did not alleviate the blemishes...they are still there...no worries, these are my beater boots and they will roll with whatever life throws at them...

PS: Thumbs up for the new laces from the guys at Alden SF.

^ awesome uncle, these might be my favorite shoe of yours....some retailer should do an all-eyelet Cigar captoe like this one.

Alden's website says that they make their own soles from oak tanned leather bends in their factory for quality control.
