I think you're just noticing it more due to the fact that there has been such a dramatic improvement in Alden QC which in turn creates fewer seconds available for sale.

You have enough Alden shops in the US to find what you're looking for.
My 2 cents.

They have rare shell colors on the Modified Last. No US retailer has this.

I purchased two pair from Charles, and he was excellent to deal with. But I knew my size, and sizing in shop is important with any shoe.

Yes, the overseas retailers can offer something we can't get in the US.  Odd as Alden is a US company.  You'd think they would honor a MTO.

IMO there is not much that Trickers does well. The quality may be good but they are not pretty.

I have some suede chukkas from Trickers that I purchased from STP.  They are very nice looking and comfortable.  Half of what Alden charges.  I like my Alden's too!  Some Trickers are very nice, same with Alden.
