I think I may have been one of the last MTOs Alden did before their moratorium...and it only took 6 months believe it or not.
They are great- really love the cigar and the antique edge trim...
PS: the Indy's on the previous page are #8 not cigar...

My mistake on the #8.

+1 on the cigar over antique edge trim

They are informally known as the "Thor Boot" in the MTO thread.  Apparently there were others that coveted your make-up since having seen you post pics of them a while back.  Many have referred to it as their "Holy Grail" of Aldens.  They are unlike any other Alden boot, as most are sleek in appearance, and your make up looks more rugged and casual.  I suppose you could describe the Indy as having those same aesthetic qualities, but still, yours is certainly unique among Aldens.  Props to you for an excellent design.  I'm glad that your not mad that we are trying to eliminate their one-of-a-kind status.

BTW, about when did they stop doing MTOs?

Alden thread might be my favorite. You guys are a great part of the community. Haven't posted my AldenxLeffot lwb's since I first acquired them. Here they are after half a year:

I really love how the color of #8 changes from the infamous eggplant to a much darker hue, almost black when the sun goes down. I've grown to appreciate the antique edge and I'm very glad I have these special makeup. Cheers, fellas.

Question on Alden leather soles --- are the leather soles (single or double) that come from the Alden factory that are NOT the waterlock type, from JR? They obviously don't have the "JR" logo on them.

Yes - that means the waterlock.

From a very reliable source, Alden uses JR leather on their leather soled (non-waterlock) shells, but not on their calf. I have shell and calf Aldens, and that explanation holds true.

Absolutely. Possibly even the most helpful group on SF, a community that is generally very helpful.

In my case at least, the willingness of thread members to answer my questions so generously has contributed to making me a partial Alden convert (shell PTBs) whereas before I did not like the brand that much.

Thanks for the info 7-fold.  As others have recently posted, this thread (and other Alden-related ones) have quickly made an Alden-addict of me and I try to learn everything I can about them.  So....  If Alden's non-waterlock leather soles on shell models are not labelled as JR, is there a distinguishing thing to look for to tell the difference?

Hi guys -- Quick question. How well do the double water-locked soles on the Pitt boots hold up in foul weather? Thanks!

So for everyone that was buying Aldens because they are made in the USA - they are made with French hides and German soles.

I was told that some of the leather is from a French tannery.  Beyond that, I haven't heard anything.

American labor is what really counts if you pay attention to that stuff.

Does it really?

Aldens are garbage, I cant beleive they can still charge this much for shoes that are lower build and quality control then loake
