1) Carmina is doing some great work with Epaulet, but on a smaller scale. Plus, the styling is frankly different, which gets me to #2
2) The clunkiness of Alden shoes are a feature, not a bug... The styling doesn't work for everyone, but for the customers it does work for, it is pretty unique and desired
3) Stock cordovan shoes seem to be going for $750-$800 for full retail these days. Marlows are hard to come by now on sale anymore, and are priced at $850. I think Marlows are worth every penny at $850, and if that is so, Alden rare cordovan at $710 and color 8/black at $650 seems fairly priced
4) No one is really doing chromexcel/suede makeups as well as Alden right now, as far as I can tell

++++1 Preach it brother, preach it. Especially with you on the styling of the Alden shoes. No one, no ONE does it better. I have looked everywhere, seen every high-end brand, experimented with others and Alden is quite unique. If this is "GM" then happy to drive it.

My girlfriend bought me a Alden #8 cordovan belt, it was very nice and an excellant gift.  Unfortunately she bought me a size too small.  Upon trying to exchange it we learned that they are in short supply as Alden is seeking a new manufacture.  So I have been on the hunt and happened to walk into the local Brooks Brothers today and found two that I liked and purchased.

700

With the #8 Cap Toe = http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=233&Product_Id=852168&Parent_Id=228&default_color=Brown#null

in Burgundy

With the Ravello Wing Tip = http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=233&Product_Id=1671408&Parent_Id=228&default_color=Walnut&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=

in Walnut

I am really fond of the Ravello matching one, it is stamped Allen Edmonds - Made in the USA.

That looks like Barrie to me.

Is this shoe:

Twice the shoe as these two? Because it is twice the cost.

I have all of these and I have to say that yes, the EGs are worth twice the cost. In general my EG crups are much better made and finished than my Aldens. I became fed up with all of the quality issues with Alden.

Here are the prices (for the above mentioned shell models):
675 Alden
850 RL
1600 EG

I have had some QC issues with Alden, but I will say I had none with this Ravello model. I have had good experiences with RL and EG.

If forced to choose, however, I would take the Alden plus the RL plus $75 rather than only the EG. But that's just me.

All beautiful shoes in their own right ....

Contact Alden with the model number and take the guess work out of it. nod[1].gif

Nice belts.

I too got my ravello matching belt from BB - last year (no longer offered). Strangely, it was advertised as British Tan, and it was anything but.

That pricing is correct, but it's for MTO crup EGs. EG Jermyn street also sells some crup models in their standard line-up. The cost is significantly less, though not cheap, ~1200-1300 USD depending on the exchange rate.

Don't want to crap the thread up with non Alden chatter, but for what it's worth, Vass shell is the best value bar none.

Nice choice for belts. The perforated one looks to be the Allen Edmonds Manistee. I have the set and they are wonderful matches for all the Alden colors. I have found them on sale every so often at ~70ish dollars.

I understood your post of "I have all of these" to mean the 3 models that were the subject matter of the discussion. Ergo, the prices given were for the precise models alluded to.
