PSA:  Someone has listed these on eBay in size 9D on the Barrie last.  They were a limited run of only 50 pairs for J.Crew.  Obviously, they've since sold out.  I have a pair myself and love them.  Somebody pick these up!

I wonder if they'd be willing to do it if a retailed asked for it in a large enough quantity.  Maybe its too close to cigar so they sort of just picked one or the other?  Same with number #4 perhaps?  Too close to Ravello, so they consolidated it in order to use that capacity to produce larger quantities of fewer colors?

(I realize that #4 is still produced occasionally, before anyone feels the need to point that out.)

Just curious if there was any explanation or theory behind the extinction of mahogany ever discussed.

Also, how come this thread isn't as busy as it was up until recently?  I guess people aren't wearing their Aldens as much due to the season?  Wearing flip flops so they don't have them on to snap and post photos?

I have a boring job, and this thread used to bring me the entertainment necessary to get me through the day.

Cigar PTB for your entertainment.  Please excuse the iPhone pic.

I've set my eyes on this 'cordovan perforated captoe' model from BB:

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=225&Product_Id=1075654&Parent_Id=522&default_color=BLACK&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=#null

Trouble is, some customers on BB's site have written that this runs wider than usual and one states this is more narrow. In addition, Alden does not list a last named 'snap' which one user lists.

Someone must know: which last is this pair made on and how do they fit?

Not going to help you, but I have read that Alden does have a last that may only be used for Brooks Brothers, but I thought it was called the M51 last or something to that effect.

Yeah M58 last is used on the BB PTB Alden, nice last, for me, fits like Barrie.. Problem is, each different BB Alden model is on a different last.

Thanks for the correction. I knew I was in the right region for the number, but didn't remember the exact number.

NRO has now delayed my order multiple times, made no effort to contact me regarding any of the delays, and has now been sitting on my boots for almost a week.

I cannot recommend anybody purchase from them. They make no effort to comply with any of their advertised policies regarding customer service and I've now taken the issue to the BBB.

I will repeat here what I said there:

My experience with the width is quite different from other reviewers, however. I typically take a medium (D) width in Alden, but sometimes a C width. In light of the reviews (that this shoe runs wider than normal) I tried a B, C, and D width, all in the same size. I went with the D width. I also compared this shoe in D width against Alden's factory version of this shoe - model 9016 - in D width. Model 9016 in D width was considerably wider (indeed, too wide for me). Model 9016 is on the Hampton Last; this shoe is on the Snap Last.

In summary, I would put this shoe's width either at "normal" or perhaps slightly more narrow than normal.

The snap last is one of my favorite Alden lasts. Also, as pointed out in a previous post by me on thie thread, BB also uses the M-75 (like Plaza) for its shell shortwing balmoral and the M-58 (like Barrie) for its shell PTB. I have every last Alden makes for BB and find none of them objectionable.

Can anyone recommend a belt to buy to wear with my Alden Indy Boots 403's?

This one's pretty cool:  http://www.epauletshop.com/servlet/the-1161/Hoof-Pick-Bridle-Leather/Detail

For a shoe/boot as casual as the indy boots, it doesn't really need to match.  As long as it's not black, in my opinion.
