I really like the idea but couldn't do it if sounds like you are wearing tap shoes...

No they won't. Never. They don't change the way you walk.

Those are a must-have when you put metal tips and don't add any relief to the soles. Personnaly, I can't do without them.

They are screwed on the shoe whereas those which tap when walking are nailed.

Still, two things should be considered about this:

- not all cobblers can do that (the average joe doesn't care about this 'fantasy');

- this is far more difficult to remove screwed metal tips when they are worn than nailed metal tips; it could even damage a bit the outsoles if the cobbler is not used to this or has graduated only a few days ago.

I took pictures some weeks ago of one of my Alden LHS with those.

Restoration Update:

Throwing up a few more pictures on my restoration project on a pair of 974s snagged off ebay. Got them in January, and they were decent, wearable, but a dark cloudy mess. Previous owner had attempted to use black polish on them, I assume for an aged sort of look. They weren't looking their potential though, no matter how you cut it.

I've been wearing them a bit since - maybe once a week on average - and giving them Mac love. Beyond just "the Method" I consulted with Mac on how particularly to get old, dried polish out of the creases without taking Renomat or another cleanser/stripper to the cordovan. Just finished today giving them a Renovateur treatment, and they're looking miles better than ever before. True #8 color is finally starting to come through over the toe box, and they're just looking grand in comparison.

Still not up to where I'd like them to be, but I'll keep working away.

I also do not experience any problems with hardwood floors, become a conduit for lightning, or find that taps improve my dancing skills. lol8[1].gif

No problems here either.

Really nice shoes El Argentino.

Good job.

Wear them in good health, as usual.

El Argentino, are those really 974s? They must be super old!

Looking good.

These are great. I have the exact same pair, also from Unionmade. Even though they are unlined, I found them to be slightly more snug than my similarly sized barrie-last shoes (which was okay with me as I sometimes wear them sans socks). But others report that these fit a bit looser. Who knows .....

Yes sir - 974, 3K17Y031, 11.5 B/D to be precise smile.gif

They've definitely patina'd into something else.

Thanks. I think you may have found them to be slightly more snug because it is very possible they are on the leydon last rather than the barrie last. The barrie last in 8D has never worked for me, and these are 8D and are perfect. This wouldn't be the first time Alden mixed up a last for Unionmade. On Unionmade's first captoe color 8 boots Alden mistakenly did them on the grant last, rather than the barrie. It was corrected on the second run. Epaulet does their unlined ptb's on the leydon, so it certainly is possible Alden did the same last for Unionmade, despite Unionmade's specifications.

I've never seen them with 6 eyelets. They're probably from many years ago!
