I actually have flat feet and a medical condition that offers the possibility of orthopedic shoes as a treatment. When I learned about Alden's orthopedic line a couple of years ago I tried to get my doctor to "prescribe" a pair of cordovan shoes for me....I was shot down smile.gif

Thanks, that does look like it is the shoe in question. I guess not a bad look for a very casual "athletic" orthopedic shoe. When do you use them?

The Tru-Balance and Modified are also considered orthopedic lasts.

Thanks for the link

They are very casual and make it an easy transition from street to bowling ally! I wear them with jeans ..khakis...alternative to PTB.

They kind of remind me of monkey boots.

I encourage you guys to post "anniversary" photos that show how shoes age after 1, 2, 5! Etc years of wear. I'm gonna clean up my ravello tassels (bought last year) and post new sunlight photos this weekend and compare them to pics I took last year...

B. Nelson apparently does outstanding work but they don't have a great lug sole option IMO. I understand that Moulded Shoe also does shoe repairs and they have the actual Alden commando sole. I have no personal experience with them but I think the commando sole looks great and would at least pursue that option.

Regarding wearing Alden wingtip/captoe boots with suits:

1) How big a deal is "all eyelets" vs. speed hooks?  Do hooks really get caught in trousers, or is it just an infrequent thing?

2) Is commando a no-no? (Commando soles that is, not to be confused with going commando...).  Does it look strange to have a lug sole w/ a suit?  Business casual?

Thanks!

Those shoes are prompting a certain "response" but it isn't jealously.

interesting - do you have a foot condition as well or was this a pure fashion/functional choice for you? I can see how having the lacing going all the way down to the toes would make for a comfortable shoe. It does look a bit like a bowling shoe.

I find that the speedhooks get caught on trousers pretty frequently, hence my preference for all eyelets. Clearly, it takes (slightly) longer in the morning, but that is minor compared to how annoyed I am when a hem gets snagged.

Depending on the suit, commando soles can work fine. They are pretty low profile anyway and if you wearing a flannel or tweed suit, it looks perfectly acceptable in my opinion. It wouldn't work for a seersucker suit, but you shouldn't be wearing boots anyway.

Just my two cents.
