I can't tell if these are 8 or Cigar.  The sole stitch on the welt appears to be a lighter contrast color, which I've only ever seen on cigar shells from alden of carmel.  Is there some way to decipher the serial number in one of the pictures?

The seller was no help.  He's a complete tool who found three aldens at some kind of estate sale.  He was trying to string me along with 'I've got someone interested in all 3, but since you inquired first, I'll let you have dibs.'  He's requiring all three (PTB Cigar and Cap Toe in Cigar as well, I think) be bought at once for well north of 1k.

Please pardon my ignorance (I'm new to the Alden fetish) but why is this boot not sold out, given it's in #4 and wingtip?  (ravello model also in-stock)?

 

I was under the assumption that these were 2 of the most coveted colors and designs....

^ Must be my lucky day.  I added a Ravello 9.5D to my cart and they had it in stock.  Looks like all other sizes (incl. all the #4's) are sold out.

 

It's Barrie last, double leather sole.  Is that a bad combo for a wingtip boot?  Seems like most folks here prefer it in Plaza/Grant with double waterlock/commando.  Curious to know if this is a "good" boot combo.

If your barrie size is 9.5D then I say buy it. Ravello is basically gone for the rest of the year. Whatever is out there now is all that is left for awhile. 2013 at the least, and I've heard grumblings of 2014

^ Barrie 9.5D fits me well in my LWBs, though the toe is a tad blobby.  I was more curious about whether a double leather sole is appealing for a boot, but I suppose on the first re-sole, I can switch to double waterlock/commando?

Alden no longer will change the sole during restoration. So if it is double leather soled going in, that is what you'll get it back as. You can send it to B. Nelson for a sole change if you wish.

That is a wonderful combo provided you get the right fit. I have the same boot and love it. Incidentally, you can count me among those for whom the Barrie last fits quite nicely. Great choice for an Alden makeup.

Anyone know what last this Alden is? Had no idea they produced sneakers...perhaps their Orthopedic line?
