Totally. Probably the best suited boot from Alden's line. The lug sole on that boot is the key.

I'm jealous too. My brand new ravello LWBs don't look nearly as deep as these. Mine have almost no reddish tone. Almost a milk chocolate color. I'm actually a little disappointed.

With ravello, it is best to inspect the pair before you buy (or at least ask if it is dark or light)

Yeah. Mine are more like the shoe on the right but even darker brown.

Unfortunately between my unusual size and distance from any Alden retailers I had to buy sight unseen from Alden of SF. They're beautiful shoes, just at the lower end of the "Ravello Beauty" spectrum. Maybe they'll patina nicely. Or I could leave them in the sun...

I'm not a huge proponent of bals but i think this is a great, super clean shoe for spring/summer.

two quick questions re horsehair brushes for mac method:

1. one brush for all shoes, or one brush for each pair?

2. the ebay seller (coolshoeswalter) sells both light colored and black-bristled brushes, does that make a difference?

if it matters, i have three pairs of shell shoes: black, #8 and cigar. thanks!

Personally, I have one brush. I periodically check it to make sure it's not picking up color and redistributing on other shoes, but unless you're using a LOAD of colored wax and polish, it won't really matter. Normally I'll wipe down w/ damp cloth for dirt, so it's not like it's accumulating crap either. Brush is for friction and shine.
