So many excellent pairs in this thread. In the words of one Steve Jobs: 'Oh, wow, oh, wow...'

Seconds are definitely hit or miss. Although AE has competitive prices, the design just does not work for me. IMO, the eyelet stays are too far down the vamp and the 'curves' of the toe is too close to the end with the tip being much more elongated. It might not be an issue for those with larger sizes but the discrepancy is much more pronounced in smaller sizes. It does become a factor now that AE is able to maintain its price mark (and even lower with their newer shoes) while Alden is gradually increasing.

wow - Check these out. Just posted over at Leffot.

Saw them last night on their site. I would have pulled the trigger, but they don't offer their collaborations in E width. So many shoes I'd like to have, but can't because no one includes widths in their custom runs unless they offer a pre-order like LSW :(

I'm a little afraid right now that they fit and I'm gonna have to keep them...

Thanks for any thoughts.

Not trying to belabor my issue, but after wearing the 9D on several occasions, it feels excessively roomy and a sloppy fit, even with thick wool socks.  I now have an 8.5D in the house (which I've been very careful with not to crease or scuff so I don't end up with 2 Indy's that don't fit and I can't return) and it feels pretty good, especially in the heel, but is somewhat tight at the widest part of my foot.  Wish I had an 8.5E, but I fear that would end up too wide in the heel.  Does anyone else go a full size down for the Indy/Trubalance?  For those that have had experience with this, can I expect the leather to give at all so its not putting pressure, and eventually causing pain, on the outside of my foot?  Although I have reason to believe the leather will stretch, I am also wondering if the solid construction of the boot at the welt will prevent it from giving me a bit more room at the ball of my foot.

Thanks.

God I want these so bad too...unfortunately I need a B width in a Barrie LWB, so I'm also out of luck unless someone decides to offer a pre-order.

EDIT - Just e-mailed Leffot about the possibility of doing a pre-order for odd sizes on this when their next restock comes around. I'm not going to hold my breath because it's probably a slim chance, but I'll let you know if I hear back with any news.

Here's the thing (that I've found) with the Trubalance last. Seem 'generally' one needs to size down one whole size. They are a big roomy last - but as they are handmade (finished) this can't in alway be a 'given'. Like you are experiencing maybe only a half size would have made a difference ? Apparently there is only 4mm (quarter of an inch) between whole sizes anyways! So I'm not sure what that means for half sizes. Could that be 2mm (one eighth)? and again, thats saying everything is prefect out of the factory (not sure thats the case).

Regarding the uppers to stretch and meet at the laces tie point - not sure that can happen to the extent of that gap shown in your picture - surely that would mean a huge gusset of leather would appear at the base of where laces end. As for the rest of the boot 'giving' in areas - I wouldn't expect hugely due to the thickness of the leather but should still 'give' a little over the breaking period - most leather does.

If the 8.5 feels tight at all, I would not go for that one. Once you get out in the wilderness hiking (or just the wilds of the city streets), your feet will likely swell a bit while walking throughout the course of the day and the Indys would only feel tighter.

I concur. I got mine on Amazon:

They look a bit hideous but when it's totally storming out, they do offer good protection.

Mediahound rises a very good point here - feet during the day alter size! Depending on activity, let alone 'travelling' and aircraft travel.

Its worth considering when 'sizing' shoes.

Leffot stocks some Alden shoes on narrower lasts (like Leydon, Aberdeen) in E. I am wearing 10E Aberdeen tassel loafers right now from them They also stock some Indy boots in E. I've talked to Steven about this, he plans on ordering more E widths in general in Aldens, so expect more of the shoes to be released in E.

I love navy shoes, and these are objectively cool shoes, but...

Is it just me, or is the broguing on Alden's navy suede shoes just too hard to see? I thought about trying to get the Leather Soul shortwings and the same issue caused me pause. Can any owners of these shoes comment? Maybe they look different in person / in natural light
