abundance of sizes available right there from a forum affiliate.

#8 longwings are probably the easiest Alden to find - not sure where you are looking but nearly every Alden retailer stocks these.

I've learned to live with the creasing on these - my next cordovan chukkas will be in 9.5E instead of 10D though (this will minimize creasing)

Good choice. I agree with you on the creasing. It's amazing how much less there is when moving just a half size down to the right fit. I experienced this first hand when moving from 9.5e to 9e on all my Alden shoes. WRT your creasing, some Reno and the Mac method work wonders. Enjoy your Chukkas.

If you can get the PTB in a different last (e.g., M58 Alden for Brooks Brothers), it does dress it up just a tad. If this shoe is not available (I think Alden may not continue their production for BB), the 990 will also work well.

LWB would be my preference because the design does add something extra but this is more related to personal preference.

I have a love-hate relationship with NAT CXL. I really like the comfort and color but I have a hard time committing. I owned LWB but sold them within a couple of months. I lusted over some Indy's from TSM but eventually passed (then someone picked them up). Seeing these NST makes me wonder again.

I would pick up the NAT CXL NST from LSW/LSBH if they were not crepe soles (lots of abbreviations).

The only nat cxl i've really liked was the lwb (why I bought them, haha). I saw this picture after someone 'broke them in' and knew I had to have them

Seen those, and many do like them darker; however, to me, there is something about the lighter hues. I have enough medium to dark brown shoes but the lighter shades are always rarer (in my experience).

They are CRAZY comfortable though!

Found a pair of Kudu chukkas at a thrift store that look like they have been worn super hard. The insole has a slight smell and looks "cracked," with a sort of rough texture (maybe it got wet?) Is this something Alden could recraft? Or anyway to get rid of the smell?

I'm sure they can replace in the insole but that will add cost (>$100) to your find. Additionally, depending on what the 'smell' is, it could be just some poor care at best, or at worst, mold, or something that is deep into the leather. Cedar trees can address mild odors but I am not sure if it is that bad. Maybe others can chime in.

Doesn't really look like mold, smell is kind of like a slightly damp leather smell? I would guess it's just been worn daily without changing shoes. I have 404s Indys and it has a kinda similar smell of the CXL. Don't really want to test shoe tress at the moment as I only have enough for my shoes at school right now. It's a half size big for me I think but was $15 so I decided to get them

For $15 can't go wrong. Reno cost more than that. Worth the risk in my book. Maybe if you send them in to Alden they can do something about the smell?
