After seeing so many nice pictures of the LWBs (never really considered them), I decided to try them on @ the Alden Store in SF.  I was determined to make a color 8 shell chukka my first shell purchase, but was blown away by the LWBs.

They looked surprisingly good with the jeans I had on (didn't expect that) and the chukkas didn't seem as versatile as I expected them to be.  They didn't have cigar, so I went w/ the color 8.

One odd thing.  My Indy's on truebalance last are 8.5D.  I was determined to get the LWBs on barrie last in an 8.5D, but they simply didn't fit well (too big, could fit a finger in the heel when I stood up).  The 8D fit fine, but I was confused.  Eventually I just got them.  I went home and measured the outsole and measured the width and other measurements (and aligned them side by side) and they are pretty much identical, the LWBs were even slightly bigger in certain respects.  Don't want to start any second guessing on sizing, but I thought barrie and trubalance were pretty much the same--odd right--or am I missing something?

Does seems strange. The trubalance should feel larger than Barrie, not the other way around.

I have 11D cordo tankers on Barrie that fit fine, had 11D Indys on Trubalance that were too small. Everybody seems to say it's the opposite but not in my experience. Maybe that is a cordo vs. non-cordo thing? I don't know.

Is anyone else digging the long wing tassel loafer as much as I am?  I'd love to see this done in #8 shell.

Anyone else notice that Alden cordovan shoes for BB are no longer available online?  What's up with that?

They do that a lot when there's a sale going on

The 11D has too much girth for me, my heels were falling out.  Interestingly, the 11.5C fits OK.

I think you can get away with more space in a boot like the Indy because you can cinch it up around the ankle.  So you don't notice the heel space as much (the boot moves with your foot).  In a derby, you don't have that advantage.

You've got me on this one.  I would also suggest that there is some variation from shoe to shoe (i.e. quality control issues).  There may be a pair of lasts that are smaller than usual.

I see the LS Kudu Ultimate Indy dropped.  I wasn't expecting these for a few months.

Not bad, but the look is a bit too aggressive for me, given the contrast stitching (laces are an easy fix).... guess I could probably just darken them myself - but then I mine as well just buy the regular kudu indy for less money

It comes with standard laces as well.  The 404 was too understated for me.  The contrast toe stitching and sole caught my eye giving the boot more visual weight.

Can you wear these boots as dress shoes? Or are they too casual?

I'm getting ready to buy my first pair of Alden's on the modified last. They don't offer too much in shell. I've narrowed it down to the shoe above of this shoe in calf.

Which would you choose and why?

Thanks

I think the first boots can easily be worn with an odd jacket and trousers. I don't think they are good for a suit.
