For my first post I am looking for some guidance on my first pair of Alden's. I am in "need" of a pair of Alden LWBs. Choices available in 8D are;
Cigar shell with dark edge sole. I would much prefer the antique edge.
Burnished tan calf with light edge. Like the color and sole but I'm afraid the calf lacks the depth and richness of the shell.
And finally #8 with dark edge. Again would prefer the light edge and I think I want the #8 in the NST boot.
I am looking for a color that pairs well with light gray. I don't want to change the direction of the discussion but this is to dress down a light gray suit for a semi casual, early summer, northern Ontario, family wedding. I think the tan would be best but I really love the character of the shells and want the cigar to work. 90% of the wear will end up being at the office with jeans.
Cigar with light edge trim if you can find it
#8 longwing actually looks better with the dark edge IMO. My first Alden was a #8 longwing bought a while ago, it still gets significant wear, goes with light grey, dark grey, denim, etc.Edited by Alcibiades - 3/26/12 at 8:06pm
