I don't see what's so horrible about those corduroy pants. I personally think the color combination is great. Not everyone is into raw denim with 4'' of stacking.

Sapir users - what color do you use for Color 8....Mahogany or Burgandy?

Also do peeps use shoes trees in their Indy and various other boots?

I feel that the contast stitching on the toe as well as the midnight navy color is what pops on this boot. What I I would like to do is get some laces that match the contrast stitching. However, I don't think you can ever have eneogh "Midnight" blue shoes. And one of these days I am sure I will run into you at Leffot.

I took your advice, went in to see Steven and Colin, and walked out with a pair

I use Saphir Reno and several waxes from them but on color 8 I use Alden's color 8 wax

I don't use trees in my cowhide Indys but will likely use them in my suedes. I use trees in my cordovan boots

Since we're on the topic, how often do you gentlemen use wax/polish on your shells?

I have yet to use any on any of my pairs. I use a slightly damp cloth to clean the shoes and brush them after the shoes are dried completely.

I go to the local Nordstrom Rack and buy 3-5 pairs of shoe trees at once to keep in stock. I put shoe trees in all of my shoes that are $300+. They're only ~$12 a pair.

Basically never.
If you use polish on shell it doesn't really get absorbed properly, because it's impregnated with waxes & oils.
Kinda hangs out on the top and looks cloudy. Nasty really.
Google "mac method"... seems to be preferred round here.

I use wax every 10 wears or so. A lot of guys say never but it seems everyone from Mac to Alden itself recommends occasional use of wax polish.

Alden's Floyd Gilmore recommends wax polish for cordovan. His quote says not to use "paste," which appears to be a synonym for cream polish. The cordovan guide included in Alden shoe boxes encourages wax polish over cream as well...

GQ Eye: Do you have any tips for young guys who love Alden shoes but might not know the best way to take care of them?
Floyd Gilmore: Shoes trees, number one, and don't wear them every day. Switch your shoes; I never wear the same shoes two days in a row. You want to keep them polished. For horsehide you use a wax polish and not paste, because the leather has a lot of oil in it, and on calfskin you can use paste or wax sparingly. Do that and put trees in them and they'll last you, unfortunately, a long time.

YMMV
