Loafers (tassel, full strap in aberdeen) are also OK with suits. One reason I am attempting to sell my ravello PTBs is that I find the combination of the width (barrie, E fitting) and the creasing on it to be a bit too informal for suits. I think one of the unique benefits of cordovan wingtips, loafers, etc is the fact that they can be worn credibly with both suits and jeans.
My black calfskin shoes are balmorals (Church's). I am going to add a pair or two of Edward Green to the suit rotation as well.
I find them all to be pretty suit appropriate. A lot of well dressed individuals are wearing bluchers with suits nowadays. Traditionally it was bal only, but that isn't the case anymore IMO. That said, I would love to see Alden make more balmoral cordovan shoes.

Couldn't agree more.  I just can't understand why the bal options are so limited in shell.

One of these independent retailers should simply stock balmoral wingtips and captoes in all available shell colors, they would be on constant back order . There is big void in that market

My new Ravello PTBs on the third day of Mac break-in method.

^ I honestly doubt there is enough demand for bals to have retailers do that many special makeups. Sure we like them on SF, but I think the guys who are buying Alden bals are just getting them from the coastal Alden stores and Shoemart. Many of us who want workhorse bals for suits prefer other brands anyway.

You can always get the perf, and plain, cap toes on the Hampton last from Alden and Shoe Mart. Also, wingtips are always available from BB (though with the metal eyelets). What I would like is a regularly available shell quarter brogue. I know AE offers one (the Strand in brown shell), but I would like one in Alden purple #8.

But only in color 8 and black - no cigar or ravello bals?

http://aldenmadisonny.com/ has both cigar and whiskey balmorals in stock. I'd love to get both, in particular because of how much I love the hampton last, but I'll stick with my black bals.

Does it make sense that 2 different Alden models on the Barrie last would fit differently? I wear a 10.5D in general, and a 10D Barrie LWB in calfskin (so far no surprise). But I ordered the J Crew cordovan captoe also on the Barrie, and the 10D feels snug in front, on the right side of the right shoe. Is there often variability in sizing between models on the same last? Perhaps it's the cordovan vs the calfskin?

Could it be that your calfskin shoe has stretched a bit? Shell won't stretch much if at all so maybe that explains the difference you are feeling.

I was told by the sales person in Tassels in HK, that in general the cap toe made by Alden is slimmer in the front than other style, ie. long wing.

And I found it is true (as least for me), the hunting boots (cap toe) is more snug in the front than my LWB, even in the same size and last (6.5D barrie).

It made me feel uncomfortable to wear the hunting boots.... just hope the longer I wear them, it will stretch a little bit more.....

I find my NST on the Barrie last are noticeably tighter than the LWB and the Pitt boot.  Though, it could be the difference in leathers: the NST are shell; the LWBs are kudu leather; and the Pitt boots are CXL leather.
