I see you are doing a catch and release. What didn't work out about the sizing? Did you have other shoes on the Barrie last?

Yes, i have a few pairs on the barrie last in 10D. Thought I needed to move to a 10E cuz my 10Ds became a bit tight cuz of my new orthodics. I think the extra width serves me well, but due to the volume of the orthodics, my heels slip out a good amount.

I am bummed. I love these shoes.

Hope someone will give them a good home.

Alright, I just purchased a pair of Tan Suede LWB on the Leydon last. Should take delivery this week. All my other Aldens (all two pair) are on the Barrie last so i'm taking a chance and hoping that these fit. I'll try to post pics once they arrive.

Good luck. I do wear half size difference between Barrie and Leydon, and all fit well.

Done some searching, but am still a bit confused. Nowhere to get sized for Alden near me. Some comparisons may help: I wear a 12D in the Red Wing GT (with a good bit of heel slippage), and a 13c in AE Shell Leeds. In other words, a slightly narrow foot. Regular to low instep.

Folks often say to size down a half size for some lasts, but I haven't ever seen 12.5 Alden shoes. Would 12D size work for me, and if so, in what lasts? Some suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I have never heard of Alden before this thread. Luckily, there is an Alden store in San Francisco. I popped in and got the Indy Boot...

...one odd thing, didn't get any shoe bags...but not a big deal...

...also, I asked the guy how I should take care of them. He said to do nothing and just wear them. He didn't even really seem that interested in selling me the cream or anything.

...he just said to wear them as is and it's all good. Is that right?

Congrats on your new boots! Those don't come with shoe bags unfortunately, just plastic bags, probably because they would have to make a larger shoe bag to fit boots and they choose not to. I've bought other models of Alden shoes (not boots) that did come with flannel bags though. He sorta has a point since these are work boots, meant to be worn and beaten up. That said, what model did you get? A neutral boot creme maybe once a year should do the trick. PS, I know for a fact the manager (James) there really likes to get people out of the store as quickly as possible, which is something I don't agree with. Don't really like him-when he's not there, your shopping experience is *much* better because the salesguys there are quite nice and helpful and don't mind chatting. Problem is, you can never be sure when Jim won't be there...

FWIW I apply neutral boot cream to my 403s every two or three weeks, depending on how much wear they get. Chromexcel takes a great shine even when they're beat up, and I like the look. I don't think that would work as well with the waxy cowhides, though. Calf is pretty forgiving, though.
