I'm sure others will disagree, but IMHO #8 is the most versatile. With that said, you are going to be very happy with any of the above, as brown shoes go with everything except for black.

cigar is really just a shinier brown so very versatile. #8 is like a shiny brownish burgundy. both are VERY versatile, a long with black

What brands?

Zippy, love the PTB. My second favorite Alden after the longwings. How do you like the crepe?

I used to hate the look of crepe but I've become a fan.
The look doesn't bother me now and it's very comfortable..

Does anyone have a pair of wtb in cognac calf (burnished tan)? I'd love to get a pair in ravello, but don't think I can swing that much. Leaning towards these: http://www.alden-of-carmel.com/index...p_Boot_198.htm in the cognac or the cxl ones from Leather Soul. I do have the cxl indy's.

I've been wearing hiking socks with my Indy's. Was thinking dress socks for the WTB's. What do most people wear with Alden boots - hiking socks or dress socks?

I've got a pair of wingtip shoes in that cognac calf. I like that color a lot. It's sort of between whiskey and reavello. If you're looking for a wingtip boot in that general color, another option would be the Tricker's Stow in Acorn. They're a bit cheaper than the Alden if you buy from Pediwear or Shoe Healer.

I never wear hiking socks. Sometimes boot socks but usually dress socks.

Speaking of crepe, it was slippery in DC today, so I rocked these Indys and the crepe came in handy.
