Why would they do this to an Indy boot? What did it ever do to them?

Seriously, Red Wing makes a million of these Frankenstein-soled boots.

Thicker socks? Or just unload them (brand new, only worn on carpet, not creased - "break-in procedure" only) and get a cigar dress shoe instead?

If they don't feel good, definitely return them. I assume you are talking about 1339s? Since those are unlined they will fit even more generously than a lined Barrie last shoe, and you might need to size down to get a good fit.
This is exactly the opposite of what I and others have experienced.

I sold my chukkas because they fit so tight I could barely put them on and I went true to size. I would need I size up in order for them to be even bearable. I measured and they were definitely smaller than my half size down ptb on Barrie.

Now I'm looking for a plain toe in plaza or grant w/ or w/o commando sole in Color 8 shell. J. Gilbert has some but not in my size (looks like they'll re-order for next fall/winter).

I'm a 7E in a Leydon last (AF79). Looking for advice on which way I should go in a Barrie last:

7D

6.5E

6.5D

I know Barries are supposed to be on the wider side, but are they also longer than a Leydon in the same size?
