And then when you broach the subject of a cordovan pre-order, their assholes pucker up as they try to find the polite way to say "sir, those shoes are for our 'regular' customers"

I tried buying from them a couple of times and was advised that an entire stock was magically "allocated" to their clientele already (called the same morning I saw a blog update), meh whatever...

I know this question has been broached before, sorry in advance, but where is the best place to order flat waxed Indy laces? I have the regular cotton ones on my natural CXL Indys and would like to try the flat waxed ones. I know there are plenty of gripes about these laces as well but I'd like to try them.

I'm sure plenty of SF-ers have been disappointed to be shut out on an exclusive make-up, but the negative comments seem unfair. The LS website has always stated plainly and honestly that they are primarily a bricks and mortar retailer. Moreover, if you call (as the LS website suggests) and ask, they will tell you whether they have any shoes available in a particular make-up that's on order. If all the pairs in the order aren't already spoken for, they will gladly take a deposit from you (also as spelled out on the website).

Been a while...

Yup, it's true, we make exceptions for customers who buy a lot of shoes. It's the hard reality of retail. Also, most of our business is in-store so we really need to hook up our in-store customers and those who visit us often.

Also, if you guys bought boots from us and want replacement laces just email me and I'll have a set sent to you. If you're new just send us a $5 bill and we'll send you a pair.

You can try emailing Alden directly, they sent me a pair of the normal cotton ones to replace mine for free, you could inquire about the waxed laces.

Yep - I have to admit that the stitching makes the look so different from the regular Indy that I was a bit taken aback - but they're growing on me. Nice for a change.

They never did before. Double leather.

J,

How do you like the fit? Typically the NST runs a little narrower in the width than a plain toe or a longwing style. That's probably why these boots were made on the Trubalance last. Is the fit consistent with that thought?

I have found that they fit a little looser than the barrie. I have a few nst shoes and know what you are talking about with the width but the trubalance defenitely makes these boots roomier.IMG_1324.jpg

Is there a maximum size on custom runs from Alden, or is it just an artificial scarcity thing to keep these special makeups small runs? They always seem to sell out pretty immediately (if they're not completely pre-ordered), so obviously the demand is there for bigger runs.

Usually 24-36 pair. That's it.

These are great! Please post more pictures.

Porter: You have an awesome rotation of shoes (and socks!) You're making me really regret not getting in on those LS shortwings.
