Sorry, not to me! I love Tricker's as much as Alden's. . .own two pairs of RTW, and two MTO's, with two more MTO's on their way to me. Can't wait to get them in the next few weeks. Especially love the flexibility of the MTO program, and the thick, wide soles.

'Wonder if the stitching issues showing up on some Aldens are related to the use of synthetic or synthetic-blended thread, because that stuff is brittle and prone to breaking as compared to certain all natural fibers. And if I remember correctly from home ec class a thousand years ago, the thread tension setting on a sewing machine has to be set correctly to prevent stitching failure. Maybe Mr. DWFII will kindly chime in?

I just got back from Alden on Madison NYC and got myself what seems like a pair of cap toe kudu boots with oiled sole, model number 40705.

Anyone heard of these?

I'm pretty sure that any issues are not related to the use of synthetic vs natural threads. Some shoemakers just prefer linen and others prefer Dacron. Linen used to be more common, but the quality of the linen thread is not as good as it used to be. To my knowledge, Dacron is stronger than linen thread and for obvious reasons is not susceptible to rotting. I believe that the Dacron is strong enough that it will usually tear through the leather before breaking. I also believe that Dacron will usually produce a neater set of stitches.

has anyone ever taken any Alden shoe/boot to a cobbler to be stretched width-wise? something like taking a D to an E width, just creating a bit more room
