What's making your feet hurt exactly? Mine caused some sore heels for the first day, but I don't remember them giving me much other trouble.
I don't know. Probably all of the walking I did showing the gays around. I wore them non stop on Georgetowns/DC's uneven pavement, bricked, cracked sidewalks. I just asked another Alden lover, and he said his feet hurt like hell for awhile too. Up until like 50 wears.
Sorry, I'm not very familiar with Alden shoes. How durable are cork compared to rubber? Good enough for a few days of rain a year? How's the traction on it? Better than leather I presume?
traction is great for wet pavement/rain. however it is useless for snow. I walked like 10 feet on snowy dirt and the smoothness of the sole caused me to almost fall over a few times. I am hoping to get commando soles once the original wear out. Don't ask me if this is possible or not because I don't know, it is just a hope. Also the Indy's were one of the most comfortable Aldens for me personally. They rubbed against me bad in two spots but that went away after 5 short wears. If they hurt you really bad, I suspect they are not the right size OR the tru-balance last is not ideal for your feet. Either way I hope they get better soon.
so I'm thinking about picking up a pair of boots from leather soul, and these are the styles I'm considering: ultimate indy indy in vintage leather plain toe boot any thoughts/personal experiences?

i would go with the plain toe over the indy. i am waiting for my cap-toe in #8 shell (due this month, i think). #8 is more versatile. i was going to get the ultimate indy, but couldn't bring myself to spend the premium for boots that were going to be beaters for the most part.
