Nicccce!  Did you go true to size on yours?  I picked up a pair recently, too, but I can't decide if they're slightly too big.

Those appear to have been resoled - as the dark welt suggests previous dark edging. No?

I agonized over what size to get. I wear 11.5D in Barrie for calf or suede and 12D in Barrie for shell shoes/boots. My feet are a nightmare to fit; I'm 11.5D by length and 13C for arch on the Brannock. I went with 12D for the cxl Brooks Brothers tassels. I'll be getting 11.5D when the next sale comes around and I pick up the suede ones.

The size 12 is a bit big, but it's not a deal breaker. At first there was some heel slippage, but it went away. The only thing that bothers me is the way the sides flare when I walk, but I can have my prozac dosage upped if it bothers me that much...




Chromexcel is such a great leather. Maybe to avoid the flaring I'll take them off when I walk and put them on when I sit down and just cross my leg so it looks fine like in the pic.

Very nice CXL. I have yet to plunge into CXL, but some of the pics of patina'ed natural CXL is making me reconsider them. What is the care process for CXL? Mac method (I realize it's not shell)?

just speaking for me and my cxl indys.. they get a good thumb rub for any scratches, a little venetian from time to time if I'm bored, and then a quick buff.

I don't think that cxl creases well enough to be considered as a dressier option, so I don't treat it as one.

Same here. Nick from Horween recommends Venetian for CXL. I've found it works well.

I agree. There's a post by Nick on the Horween site about how they make the CXL leather, which is a pretty cool little piece. In it he suggests using neatsfoot oil. A commenter suggests Graisse Medallion by Saphir. CXL leather reminds me of a baseball glove I had years ago. I loved the look and smell of it and I used neatsfoot oil on it from time to time.

Like kwhitelaw said, I just rub any scratches with a finger or thumb and I have used Renovateur the one time I've cleaned them. I don't really even brush them very much. These are my new workhorse shoes and I plan on keeping the maintenance pretty low. I'd definitely say it's a casual leather.

Neatsfoot oil will darken natural and lighter colored CXL. Otherwise it's very good.

I recently returned a pair of Flex-Toe Suede Chukkas to J. Crew which I had purchased 0.5 size down from TTS because they were too small.

This after having moved on from a pair of calf LWB that I'd purchased TTS which I felt were too big. So I'm stuck trying to work out the Barrie boot versus Barrie shoe size as well.

Now I'm trying to decide between the cordovan cap-toe boot TTS, or the Indy (Trubalance) in 0.5 size down.

I just wish they had the LWB in shell in my size (0.5 down). I'd be satisfied if they had it on back order.

Nothing beats trying shoes and boots on and since you are in the LA area, nothing beats a trip to LS to get accurately sized

Are you positive the chukka was on the Barrie? Often they are on the Leydon

J Crew's suede chukkas are on the barrie, but the unlined suede on barrie tend to run narrow. I believe all of Alden for J Crew are on the barrie last
