After lurking for sizing advice (thanks), I thought I would register to show my recent Alden irregulars. I had to get the right camera angle to show the small side impression on the 8 Barrie Chukka that came today. I have had the Aberdeen Cap Toe for a bit and really couldn't find anything wrong. Alden can bypass the retailer and just send these "mistakes" directly to me in the future. Both fit nicely, but I expect the Hampton to be the best last for me. I'm not sure if I would go down a half size on other Barrie boot styles though.

Looking sharp & excellent work bringing them back to life. I really like the filtered & unfiltered pics in one post, it's like having your cake & eating it too. Carry on.

Maintenance day.

These look awesome. Makes me think that with just these two pairs, and one captoe boot, one's Alden collection could be totally practical and complete. If only the addiction didn't set in...

could you expaned a little on what sizes you take in other lasts and what you got in the leydon.

thx

As far as Alden is concerned my limited experience is with 12.5D in the Barrie. The chukka in question is the 13D Leydon and I can't see it being even close to working for me.

Other shoes would be C&J Marlow in 13D and AE MacNeil in 13D.

Contrary to what others said, cigar is arguably the most versatilee of the three options you have listed (whiskey, ravello, cigar). I would also argue that the barrie last is more versatile than the aberdeen.

I agree that cigar is more versatile than ravello. I don't think it is even debatable that cigar is more versatile than whiskey. It is, and so is ravello for that matter. For these reasons, I personally would eliminate whiskey from contention. Then it comes down to two very nice colors - each plenty versatile - on two totally different lasts.

The nst style is quite different in appearance when these two lasts are used, particularly if compared in person. I own the aberdeen ravello nst. I used to own the barrie cigar nst. And I have purchased (only to return) the aberdeen cigar nst. Of the three I like the aberdeen ravello nst the best - by a long shot. And this is coming from a guy who, if forced to only keep shoes/boots in one of the three brown-ish exotic colors, would choose cigar.

I find the aberdeen ravello nst to be one of Alden's best looking shell models, regardless of shell color, and maybe the best looking ravello model.

Can't go wrong with any of them, however.

Not sure if you are interested but...Alden on Madison has a pair of Cigar NST slips-on, Aberdeen last in 13E. I already have this style in Cigar. A very nice shoe!

See Ya,

sounds like a 13E would be worth a try.
