Gentlemen,Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I would like to offer my humble advice for how to balance your passion for Alden's and your passion for pleasing your wives.
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means an expert....I am just sharing what has worked for me.
I have found that my wife appreciates and even encourages some of my Alden and other shoe purchases when I get her involved with my hobby.
She likes to hear me talk about the ins and outs of shoe-making, the difference between the makers and the "exotic-ness" of certain types of cordovan.
And she loves to be involved, she likes it when I shine my shoes and my boys are crowded around me wanting to "help" Daddy shine his Alden's.
This is the best way to balance your enjoyment of Alden's and making your wife happy. Make her feel a part of your passion.
EXAMPLE: I went to pull the trigger recently on a new pair of Day-Trippers and when I told my wife about them she rolled her eyes and said; "I thought you were done for awhile....." And then I said; "They're Ravello...." And she smiled big and said; "Oh, let me see them...."
Ravello is her favorite cordo shade........
This works for me, also. I get her involved in the planning of MTOs (from other makes obviously), also.
