I would like to offer my humble advice for how to balance your passion for Alden's and your passion for pleasing your wives.

DISCLAIMER:  I am by no means an expert....I am just sharing what has worked for me.

I have found that my wife appreciates and even encourages some of my Alden and other shoe purchases when I get her involved with my hobby.

She likes to hear me talk about the ins and outs of shoe-making, the difference between the makers and the "exotic-ness" of certain types of cordovan.

And she loves to be involved, she likes it when I shine my shoes and my boys are crowded around me wanting to "help" Daddy shine his Alden's.

This is the best way to balance your enjoyment of Alden's and making your wife happy.  Make her feel a part of your passion.

EXAMPLE:  I went to pull the trigger recently on a new pair of Day-Trippers and when I told my wife about them she rolled her eyes and said; "I thought you were done for awhile....."  And then I said; "They're Ravello...."  And she smiled big and said;  "Oh, let me see them...."

Ravello is her favorite cordo shade........

This works for me, also. I get her involved in the planning of MTOs (from other makes obviously), also.

Haha! Great that this works for you, but my wife just rolls her eyes at all this, and if I were to persist, she might actually ask how much I've spent on shoes! So best for me to avoid the subject with her altogether.

Once, she caught me using the suede brush on a pair, and took a picture to send to all her friends to ridicule me!

Haha. That's funny. My wife hates my shoes as well and this would never work with her. She is too analytical.

My wife is used to me brushing shoes as I do it every night and my friends know I shine my shoes so there is no point in her taking a photo of me as it wouldn't really impact me.

Sneakers notwithstanding, no one has ever recognized any of my shoes by make or model. I've only recognized someone else's Aldens once, on a plane - suede lwb. He seemed surprised. Heh. I don't even know anyone else who owns Aldens, besides my brother who just got his first pair for Christmas. wink.gif

The Saz, these look terrific. I sometimes take the TB version for granted because of the Plaza version, but this is still a top notch boot.

Black Shell?! O_o Just kidding, those are terrific! I plan to focus on adding more classic black designs to my collection this year.

Happy new year, gents.

Cool, that's a great way to start the year. I love the exotic LWBs, but it's hard to beat the classic. Enjoy your new year with joy and blessings.

No need to spoil these. Must see again.

WT boots on the plaza, especially in the darker shell colors, are so sweet.

It's all right, I kind of embrace the ridicule. Her friends all follow my Instagram too, haha.

There are far more ridiculous and embarrassing things that I do, and she's stuck with me this far. smile.gif

:slapfight:  Not my idea of marriage.  Don't talk to her about shoes anymore!
