If I order a pair of Aldens from overseas, would I still have to pay customs fees? The country of manufacture is the US so they should be exempt right?

That should be the case. A couple people have ordered from Frans Boone before so they should be able to chime in.

I usually wait a few weeks before wearing them and tell her I've had them for a while. Or I usually sell an old pair and tell her I bought these with that money (even though the dollar amounts are significantly different of course).

With the frequency that you buy and return, your wife would have to be a forensic accountant to keep up with your money/paper trail, or what some would call, a "shell game." Lol...

Having just received a pair from Europe via Frans Boone, I did not get hit with an import duty but UPS did charge $90-something for doing the customs clearance.

Yeah it is a shell game. She has no idea what's going on.

I figure if you're spending this much money for shoes they should fit perfectly. If there's heel slippage or whatever else, you're not going to wear them as much. My most comfortable pair so far is still my Indys. I'm not sure if that's due to the trubalance last or something else with that shoe.

Just giving you a hard time.  I absolutely agree...

What is on everyone's Alden wish list for 2015, prefer to stick to realistic goals but grails are welcome as well. I personally would like to add some staples in #8 as I was lucky enough to snag two pairs of whiskey and one Ravello this past year. Need a couple of items for poor weather and also looking to add some cigar to the collection. We'll see how the year plays out but trying to stay away from impulse buying and sticking to a plan for the most part, no easy task when a grail item PSA comes around lol.

For me, my wallet is hoping the Canadian dollar makes a recovery in 2015 haha. I think I may be lucky enough to grab 3-4 of these this year:

975

990 or Leffot Dover

#8 LHS (Unlined from BB if they ever restock)

Cigar PTB (on a list with DC)

NATCXL NST boot on commando (fingers crossed)

Reverse chamois Greenwich wingtip boot (hoping Leffot does another run this year)

DC Cigar Captoe boot (on a list but might be the wrong size)

Some sort of shoe on commando for poor weather, open to items popping up in the year.

Long shot goals:

Ravello Plaza Indy after seeing Mr DVs pic

I know. I don't take much personally or get offended easily so no need to explain.

I have recently learned that I should stick to Barrie and Trubalance. Plaza is a no go for me. Grant works but doesn't feel as great as the wider lasts. Hampton felt great except for some heel slippage but that might have had to do with the last combined with CXL and some other stuff. Still have to try Aberdeen and Van lasts.

Mine are:
1. Black shell Cap toe boot, leather sole, grant/plaza last
2. Cigar shell captoe boot, commando sole, grant last (on DC list for my size)
3. alpine grain makeup of some sort with brass eyelets
post #99465 of 122416

Those lined up immediately on the queue in this order...

9741 Black shell wingtip bal

966  Tan calf shortwing blucher on aberdeen

Color 8 NST Boot on aberdeen

I am seriously considering unloading all three of my shell PTBs as I almost never wear them (Black, color 8, and ravello -- all practically pristine and all 10D)
