Quick check about sizing - I have a pair of 7.D shell LWB on the Barrie last. I'm thinking about purchasing either black shell boots either from TSM or AoC. TSM  boots are on the grant, while the AoC are on Trubalance (Plain toe) or Barrie (cap toe). The question is: if I'm going from shoes to boots, and potentially wearing thicker socks, would I size up to 8 or 8.5 on the grant last? And, would I then do 7.5 or 8 for the Trubalance/Barrie?

Actually, another question - for smaller sizes, like a 7.5/8D, does a cap toe end up looking somewhat awkward, compared to a plain toe? Other questions that I need to consider are speed hooks vs. eyelets, and commando vs stacked leather..

May give it a shot. Alternatively, there's a cobbler here who might be able to re-welt also...

if barrie 7 fits you well, go with grant 7.5 and trubalance 7. even with thicker socks.

That should have read Barrie 7.5D, but I assume the advice still applies, just with 8.0 grant and 7.5 trubalance. Thanks for the advice.

Hi guys,

For those of you with experience with Aberdeen and Van last, Which is roomier in the toe box and heel ,a 1/2 size down Van or a TTS Aberdeen, also which one is longer?

Thanks in advance.

aberdeent tts. van is the trickiest last to fit, you need to try multiple sizes and widths on.

I'd stick with your same size in the Trubalance.

As for the cap toe, I worried about the same thing but then Alden is very balanced and does not make my feet look small, etc like other makes.

Gentlemen,

Does anyone have a recomendation for a horsehair brush? I was looking for a new one and I see the allen edmonds brush is $10 and the alden brush is $38. Is there a big difference in quality among different brands?

I've not used the Alden brush, but I have two of the Allen Edmonds brushes and they work great.

I own and use the AE brushes, at first I had some issues like others here , looks like AE left some product residue (maybe polish) on a particular batch and they were causing a strange hazing on my shells,I washed them a few times with dishsoap( read that tip here) and after that they've been working perfect.

I spent like $30 on some large made in germany brushes.....but I pretty much exclusively use a small old Kiwi brush. I prefer the stiffer kiwi brush vs the softer made in germany brushes.

The van last is the one last where I haven't been able to find the right fit. 10.5D too tight. 11C too tight. 11D too loose.

Look at some of the brushes from The Hanger Project, got numerous brushes,polishes..etc. from there and everything has been superb quality.

I usually don't check the Epaulet site but happened to go on there this weekend. I'm really bummed I missed these in my size. I love the brass eyelets and natural edge/welt on this make up.
