Much thanks my friend.  Unfortunately, the color 8 boot is no longer on the website.  Ugh!

I am still holding out for a #8 NST boot with brass eyelets....

I'm going to get an early start on a new year's resolution...Which is reducing my Alden collection to a manageable number... I've discussed this with some forum members on PM, and it is probably the right thing to do, especially as I add some non-Aldens (Viberg, Edward Green, Marlows, etc) to the rotation.

I am reducing my Alden pairs to 20 by the end of this year with a goal of getting to a maximum of 16 Aldens by the end of 2014. I will continue to buy them, but only on on a one shoe in, one shoe out basis. Excess shoes will be sold, donated, handed down, etc.

My thought is I will have twenty "slots" in my Alden rotation:
Four cordovan work laceups
Four cordovan high boots
Four cordovan casual laceups
Eight seasonal shoes (random mix of styles and leathers, focusing on chukkas/boots, loafers, suede, cxl, etc)

Initially, there will actually be twenty shoes fitting these slots. However, by the end of 2014, four shoes will fill double duty, which should get me to 16 pairs. Which shoes stay and go will be determined by actual wear patterns across the seasons.

As part of this effort I will be putting some shoes up on eBay/marketplace this weekend...

A few days out, let's see how close I am to this goal:

"Four cordovan high boots"
Color 8 Wingtip (J Gilbert)
Black Captoe (Alden NYC)
Cigar Indy (Leffot)

"Four cordovan casual laceups"
Cigar LWB (Alden NYC)
990 (eBay)
Color 8 / Alpine Grain Saddle (Leffot)

"Four cordovan work laceups"
Black punch cordovan Captoe Balmoral (Alden NYC)
Color 8 full strap (Alden NYC)

"Eight Seasonal Shoes"
Tan suede LWB (Leffot)
Snuff Suede SWB (J Gilbert)
Choco Tanker (Leather Soul)
LS Ultimate Indy (Leather Soul)
CXL LHS (Leather Soul)
Snuff Chukka (Alden NYC)

That's 14 I believe (I may be forgetting one or two), so I reached my goal (my RL Marlows should really be included in this, which gets me to 15). Of the shoes I now own, the best pure specimen is the Cigar LWB (purchased in this year's Alden NYC run). The most worn shoe is the color 8 full strap (worn at least one a week). Aside from work shoes, the most worn is a tie between the Color 8 Wingtip Boots (worn weekly from fall to spring), the CXL LHS (worn weekly from Spring to fall on weekends) and the Tan Suede Wingtip (worn weekly from Spring to Fall on weekends). The most complimented shoes are the color 8 wingtip boots, cigar longwings, the black captoe boots, tan LHS and the 990.

I could see myself selling one or two more (Snuff Chukka and maybe the Leffot Saddle). I would like to add bluchers in black and color 8 (one each). I am on a waitlist for black cordovan SWB at LS, but who knows if and when those will be made. I could buy LWB, NST, captoe, etc. That would get me up to 16. Or maybe I will get a cordovan LHS instead...

Thanks for the ideas, guys. All three of these are different, but potentially valid approaches. I think I'll start with the baby powder and go from there!

BTW, the pants are not that short - the socks are new and the photo was for the person who gave them to me.

Wow, that combination has some pop to it. Hope that you are having a good day in your Indy's. Those are great!

Congrats man. That must be a difficult thing to do. You have quite a nice collection.

I vote for the Natty Chukkas...by far.

@mdubs @Alcibiades @Don L Maybe yall can chime in as to the tongue on the Indy's, Lined or Unlined? I'm pretty sure they are lined.

Here are my boots and their situation:

  • Alden x Frans Boone Color 8 "Dr. Jones" Boot - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x TSM Color 4 Wingtip Boot - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x TSM Ravello Wingtip Boot (2010) - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x TSM Ravello Wingtip Boot (2014) - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x Leffot Color 8 Naval Boots - Unlined Tongue
  • Alden x Leffot Snuff Suede Wingtip Boots - Unlined Tongue
  • Alden x Leffot Cigar Indy - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x Leffot Ravello Daytrippers - Unlined Tongue
  • Alden x AldenDC Color 8 Cap Toe Boot (4060HC) - Unlined Tongue
  • Alden x AldenDC Cigar Semi-Brogue Medallion Cap Toe - Unlined Tongue
  • Alden x AldenDC Color 8 Chukka Boot - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x AldenSF Cigar Chukka Boot - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x AldenSF Ravello Chukka Boot - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x AldenSF Whiskey Chukka Boot - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x Tassels Natural Chromexcel Wingtip Boot - Lined Tongue
  • Alden x Tassels Navy Chamois Indy Boot - Lined Tongue

Summary

  • Lined Tongues = 11
  • Unlined Tongues = 5

In conclusion, the answer is... It depends!

Hope that this helps.

Cigar LHS in route as a late holiday gift.  They look very dark in this photo, intrigued to see them in natural light.

I think y'all are talking about the TSM #8 NST boot called the 9 eyelet dress boot.  Which is still up on the TSM site.  The Preorder for the Ravello NST boot is this same boot.

See Ya,

Steve

Thank Dubs.  I have no intentions of getting rid of them.  The J Crew snuff/color 8 saddles will never come around again, I'm afraid. :(

It's still there.  For some reason, when I tried to locate it earlier today I couldn't find it.  Tifosi corrected me.  Were you the one that was raving about this boot a while back?  If so, is it primarily a dressy boot because of the aberdeen last, or does it have some versatility?

The ravello NST shoe felt pretty great today.
