Hello Gang-Need your opinion...Earlier this summer I got a pair of Whiskey PTB that had a big square mark on 1 shoe and I returned them, the consensus was how did they send those out as first quality?  It was bad to say the least.

I got my 2nd pair today, this time from Alden DC.  I'm not a super picky guy when it comes to shell cordovan, I understand there's going to be variance and flaws.  I like some different shading on LWB, or cap toes.

Here's the photo of the pair I got today.  The left and right shoes are different shades of whiskey, and it appears a different shade for the entire shoe.  Either shade separately is fine, but together it stands out to me.  No doubt over time they will become closer.  My question is this something I should expect on 1st quality?  Am I just unlucky?  It's only been an issue on the whiskey PTB, no problem on my other whiskey make ups.  I'm certain I can send these back, I? want to know would you roll with this or wait for a better pair?

Seeking feedback.

See Ya,

Steve

I'd put them on my feet and wear them, and not think twice about the difference you perceive

I'd send them back, shading on a small part is fine but you will see color difference everyday you look down at the shoes. And you have already waited so long might as well wait until you get the perfect pair

JGilbert is trying to get a run done in Color 8 on the Plaza Last with antique edges and a commando sole. That's all I have seen.

Steve,

I personally would keep those. I have had bad luck with the Whiskey PTB and don't own a pair right now either.

Unfortunately that model is the most proned to issues because of the fact that they have to use two shells and can't mix and match pieces in similar places across shoes. Also, unfortunately, due to their high return rate, Kathy does not plan to do any more Whiskey PTBs.

Hope that helps.

Mike, those Chup socks are out of control! I am even bigger sock guy than shoe guy. Fantastic stuff, they are not many Canadian retailers who carry them so buying them from the U.S is an expensive job!

@totalair1 - you are being picky. And that's totally fine. Sometimes you have to pass. There are plenty around who would take those shoes, no questions asked.

I do not care for the Alden PTB style, but plenty others do, especially when it's in whiskey or Ravello. But as mdubs says, the PTB is a style prone to issues. Personally, I think with some wear and care and time, the color difference will fade significantly, if not totally. Best of luck.

Steve,
I would return the whiskey ptbs. I agree, color variation is a nice feature for lhs, cap toes, and lwb, but I do not like it on plain toes.
For the record, my whiskey ptbs also have a blemish, but not that noticeable, so I decided to keep them and I'm very happy with them. I don't think they'll be easy to replace, but the 2 whiskey shades is a deal breaker for me.

Mike,

If you don't mind, could you post side-by-side comparisons of the LWB and SWB in whiskey (or Ravello if you have it in SWB)? Can't decide which one I like more. I'd like to eventually get one of them in Ravello.

Sorry to hear that Kathy's not gonna do whiskey PRB anymore. Any idea when will be the ETA for the final run?
