Here are some pictures (sorry, they're not great pics) of the only pair of 379X boots I have.  They were brand new, taken the day I bought them so no wear on them at all.  Hopefully they can help you make a decision.  I may not be a good judge of comparing Alden lasts but from a fit/feel perspective, I don't find it that different from the Barrie last, except maybe a bit more room in the toe box.  It's also got more arch support than the Barrie.

Definitely more work boot oriented.  Good luck.

Well, I had a great black friday surprise, when I ventured into the San Francisco Alden shop and they had a pair of #8 tankers in the back in my size! Picked them up a few hours ago (lighting is crap, but they're lovely), but damn, a small fortune!

Wouldn't be surprised if we weren't contemplating the same pair as I had the same question as you. This last does look a little round for me but assuming we're talking about the same pair, they are quite tempting. Good luck.

I have a pair of Buttero Tanino (low) in brown, like these:

I love them. Unfortunately, they're a little big. Which is a little annoying since I ordered size 8 and was sent size 8.5 but kept them since I thought they'd work with an insole... Should have sent them back, of course.

Anyway, sizing wise the Buttero Taninos are long but not wide. Almost weirdly long.

I'm usually size 8.5UK/9.5US/42.5EUR (D width) and my Barrie size is 9D, Plaza 9.5D. As said, my Taninos size 8.5UK/42.5EUR are too big. Size 8UK/42EUR would be much better. So if you're 8.5 in Barrie I would go for 7.5UK/41.5EUR. And even so, they might be a little long.

8.5D in Barrie and an 8 uk/41 fits me near perfect in Buttero taninos. Would not size down from that.

I'm an 8 in Barrie and 40 in Buttero. You should go 41

Some stores seem to have Butteros only in full sizes, ie 41, 42, 43 etc. Double select (and maybe others too) seems to have them also in half sizes, which might be good to know. They also have 20% off and free shipping (not sure if it's worldwide) this weekend with code THANKSDS20.

No affiliation.

I suppose I'll never get the $400 minimalist tennis shoe craze. I mean I get that they look like they should be in a museum, but they remind me of something Deter from Sprokets might have worn (in black of course).
...But to each his own. That's what makes the world go around!

Alden CXL LHS, Epaulet rivet chinos and jcrew shirt. Put a tongue pad in the LHS and now they fit/feel fantastic.

What about this reminds you of that?
