I wonder if the Alden retailers are sometimes jerks in person because people wander in and think the shoes are going to be Aldo prices and then give them attitude.

I know whenever I go in a store like that I try to let them know I'm not a jobber by what I specifically ask for.

I don't know... I've received great derive from LS, Alden SF, The Shoe Mart, Unionmade, and even Leffot. I suppose it's my Midwestern disposition.
All customers should be treated the same, regardless.

True, some actually do buy.

I've seen negative reviews for almost all Alden retailers (the only one that seems to get near universal praise is Alden DC). These stores all operate with limited staff, deal with erratic policies from Alden and can have very demanding customers. I've been in Alden NYC and have observed customers trying on multiple pairs of shells, creasing them hard, etc. Of course, those shoes then before worthless to a lot of prospective buyers. I've been in Leffot when news regarding some makeup hits this forum or elsewhere and have seen the huge volume of incoming calls when they have a bunch of customers in store attempting to try on Edward Greens or custom make some shoe. There is a lot of demand for high end footwear nowadays, and these stores are doing the best they can to fill them. I have dealt with basically all the Alden retailers, I have generally gotten good service, every now and them a store may slip on some aspect, but I give them the benefit of the doubt...

Leffot put me on hold and never came back.

I have had good experiences with numerous Alden retailers. While I wouldn't describe the CS at Leffot horrible, I would describe it as not nearly as good as many others. And I have made purchases there of everything from Alden to EG to a shell watch strap .....

Just this week I received condescending looks and talk for returning a shoe at an alden retailer. I was pretty polite about it, but it definitely makes me think twice about doing business with them

Yup. I wear mine pretty much every weekend. I actually own 2 pairs.

975 is awesome and I have a retailer locally that carries them so I might snag a pair sometime next year. I have debated the Leffot version but with the excgange rate, shipping and duties I would be paying about a $200 premium for the antique edge. I think it's worth sticking to when they may need a resole and using the $200 to restore them and change to antique at that time.

I am having the same debate about the 990 as they carry it as well, but the unlined Leffot Dover is still winning that battle in my mind.

IMO shell creases tend to look better on the longwing/ wingtip designs than plain toe's. The plain toe's look sick out of the box, but to my eye I prefer how the longwings age.

Editing to note that this is just my opinion and i'm sure there are plenty of posters here that will argue against me, so take my advice w/ a grain of salt.

Those are great! Congratulations. Nicer to see some semi-lighter Cigar coming out again!

I agree with this statement. I think that the 975 is the quintessential Alden makeup and should be in any Alden's owners closet unless for some reason the Barrie last doesn't work well for them.

Agree with ryden, it's my go-to shoe 2 or 3 times a week. One of Alden's best models, IMO. Wearing mine today, at the dentist

I agree buddy! When I was in CS I always would treat everyone the same. You can't look at someone and tell if they can afford your shoes...so you might as well treat 'em all like they can.
