Alden of Carmel used to be located in Carmel, but moved in the 2003 timeframe. I assume Adam kept the name for brand identity. I could see that it might be disappointing if you were planning on visiting Carmel, but otherwise?

Misleading? He still sells grade A Aldens of all variety.

I thing Nike is misleading. They don't sell winged Mythological goddesses...

I'm new to the Alden brand. It's disappointing because I thought I was going to be able to go to an Alden store when I'm in Carmel this week. It's misleading because the name of the store is Alden of Carmel.

Your location states that you are in Washington. You have an Alden shop in Washington. Go in and talk to Kathy she will take very good care of you and can tell you about future orders.

There is a Carmel, New York, a Carmel, Maine, a Carmel, Indiana and I am sure there are other places with towns/cities named Carmel.  You decided that this was Carmel, CA.  I can understand that you are disappointed, however, nobody has mislead you but yourself.

LOL.... The first time I called them to order a pair of shoes (EG none the less), they told me they were too busy to take my order and to call back at a more convenient time! I prefer to order from them online, and not have to deal with their sales personnel.

Also there is an awesome Alden shop on Sutter Street in San Francisco! Those guys are great there. Stop by if you're in the area.

I wonder if the Alden retailers are sometimes jerks in person because people wander in and think the shoes are going to be Aldo prices and then give them attitude.

I know whenever I go in a store like that I try to let them know I'm not a jobber by what I specifically ask for.

I don't know... I've received great derive from LS, Alden SF, The Shoe Mart, Unionmade, and even Leffot. I suppose it's my Midwestern disposition.

this, or possibly someone coming in to try on (possibly multiple) sizes, to then turn around and just buy from the internet/other dealers etc.

Aside from all the rare colors of shell, does anyone still wear 975 #8 LWB anymore? Grail but hardly ever discussed here anymore. Love to see some patina #8 LWB's. Have a good Thanksgiving All!

That's pretty much every brick and mortar retailer's problem these days.

I've had similar experiences, but also much better ones. They sell great shoes, but are hit or miss on customer relations unless you're one of their heavy hitting customers who goes to trunk shows, makes purchases often, etc.

I wear mine all the time! I'm wearing them tomorrow. They're in need of a resole and they'll be making the trip up to Mass soon. I love those shoes and they're my go-to shoe. Yes they're not rare but they're still one of my favorite shoes. I get way more complements on these 975s than I do on my Whiskey She'll LHS or anything else rare like that.

We tend to forget that most "normal guys" have like three pairs of dress shoes at most. 87.48% of the men at my office wear black square toed monstrocities.

Wear what makes you happy not what people Ooooh and Ahhh about on here! If you buy what you like, you'll never care what others think.

P.S. The folks at Haberdash have the 975 @ 25% off which makes them a 731.25 which is an even better looking model, no?

^ I love my 975's, but for $731 I'd have to pass

Want to sell due to too many shoes, kinda debating to just keep them

Cigar is more versatile to me - I've made this decision before and kept the cigar.

IMO this is a must own Alden and would be my recommendation for 1st pair to purchase if new to the brand.
